Bank statements

I am chasing up reclaiming interest paid on a couple of old payday loans
I have been waiting since last november for the ombudsman to look at the case
they have now asked me for bank statements going back to june 2013
I no longer bank with the bank I used then , the bank back then was a coop basic account , more or less run online
I note that this exceeds 6 yrs , in the past when trying to locate docs dating back this far , I was told they were destroyed after "x" yrs"
will a bank still have this info , and would they pass this to on to me

It may vary from bank to bank, but from my personal experience with HSBC: no, they will not.
Someone disputed that I had paid them some money by bank transfer 10 years previously, and I went to HSBC and requested a statement for that period, and they refused - though they did tell me "unofficially" that a bank transfer was made out of the account before it was closed, and to whom the transfer was made.
I was told at the time (approx 4 years ago) that they now stick strictly to the 6 year rule, even though records may be held, for internal use only, for much longer than that.0 -
Hi,
I think you may struggle to get statements going back further then six years but if you approach Coop and ask via email you can forward this into the obudsman so they can see you have tried.

Try submitting a Subject Access Request (SAR) to Co-Op using GDPR. You may find that they no longer hold the information you need, but they are legally obliged to provide the information you request if they have it. You can then provide this to the Ombudsman as proof that you at least tried to get the information they requested.0

It's only two months over six years, so they should have all the information you want apart from two months of it.0 -
As Praisethesun says: forget asking nicely, just raise an SAR.: )0
