I'm currently with BG on their temporary Mar 2020 tariff for both gas and electric so this new Energy Plus Protection Green Aug 2020v2 fixed rate deal looks very interesting. I also have their energy extra service which costs just over £4 a month although i havent used it for a good few years. The new deal says it comes with an offer of 12 months "Central heating, plumbing, drains & electrical cover" for free which would be nice and save me an additional £50 on top of the savings in the energy tariffs.
However looking at the T&C's im not sure that i would actually get the free cover because the small print says
Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm sure i'm not the only BG customer with energy extra that is interested in this new deal.

this tariff is not available to customers who have an existing Services agreement (including HomeCare, Plumbing & Drains cover, Gas Appliance Cover and Kitchen Appliance Cover), though is available if you previously took a tariff with a services element.
The part that makes me unsure is because the energy extra cover is added on as a chargeable item on my gas bill rather than being a separate charge with a separate direct debit. This makes me think it might be classed as a tariff with a services element so i may possibly still qualify for the offer. My gas bill has a title in big blue letters that says "Your gas and EnergyExtra bill"Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm sure i'm not the only BG customer with energy extra that is interested in this new deal.

Perhaps if you had quoted the remainder of that paragraph, it would have helped clarify matters for you?If you have an existing Services agreement and choose to take the Energy Plus Protection Green Aug 2020v2 tariff we will not set up any of the cover products. The terms of this energy tariff will continue to apply for each fuel on this tariff.0 -
Not quite the same thing but I phoned BG about a similar deal on someone's behalf earlier this year and was told that as they stayed in a house rented from a local housing authority and boiler cover was provided as part of rental agreement, they couldn't sign up for this tariff and just not use the boiler cover part.
The terms appear a bit contradictory to me :question:0 -

Perhaps you can explain how the extra bit of the paragraph I omitted helps to establish whether the energy extra service I have is considered to be a tariff with a services element?
I was considering asking BG via the chat within their app but last time I used it, it was as much use a chocolate teapot and there was no transcript option so no way to prove later what was said.0 -
I've just had an absolutely horrendous experience with a similar deal from November last year. Called to book a drain issue to be told I don't have the Home Care cover despite this appearing on my tariff details. Finally got it rectified after over 2 hours of being batted around from one phone advisor to another.
I would call to check based on your specific account setup, ideally getting a confirmation in writing.
Another option is to proceed with the tariff and ensure that you get Home Care Policy confirmation and documents (including a Home Care Policy Number - this must be separate to your BG account number) within the 14 day cool off period (perhaps request if not received within 7 days). Cancel the tariff if you do not receive the Home Care confirmation and documents.0
