My bank First Trust in northen ireland just tryed to charge me £10 per statement, i was asking for aug and sept as iv not been receiving them, what should i do

    If not, banks can charge you a maximum of £10 for any amount of statements. I think you have been misinformed.

    I think it would cost you £10 for 2 statements at £5 per sheet.
  • well thats what i said to the adviser but she was saying that it was £10 for each, they wouldnt give me two statements! , now their going to have to give me every single one ,
  • If they're subject to the Data Protection Act, the most they can charge for the data they hold on you (your past balances and credit/debits) is £10.

    Banks in the UK try to get around this by assuming their customers don't know about the DPA and try to charge £10 or so per statement.


    The DPA rules have been used to great effect by people claiming back charges by asking for their past 6 years worth of history from each bank, for only £10 per institution.

    It all hinges, in your case, on whether First Trust come under the auspices of the DPA. (I beleive it should, but you could ask them next time you ring them.)
