Name em n shame em...the DFW great rip off hunt!

Options
Watching daytime Tv am struck by the amount of "great" offers such as the advert for Brighthouse that tells me I can have whatever I want for a mere 29.9% APR which is a total rip off when you think that its aimed at the most vulnerable & least able to afford it...simularly the fllowing extortionate "offer" that I got from provident this morning in my email inbox;

"Example: Loan Amount £300, 55 weekly payments of £9
Total amount payable £495, Typical 183.2%"

So come on DFW's lets name em n shame em! What other shameful/rip off "offers" have you heard of and received? Lets educate the nation! (sorry, overenthused DFW - blame it on the flu medication!)

  • Watch out for the Picture Loan ads with the annoying Mike and his wife (god i have been at home too long!):o
Can't remember the details but they use the ploy that the people on the other end of the phone are just like you and me and we can talk to them about the football - !!!!!!???

    Ahem, sorry but.....

I'm not usually a home in the daytime but have been off sick for a month now and am astounded by the state of these adverts. That coupled with all the 'lifestyle' programmes that make it look so easy to-buy-or-not-to-buy-a-home-under-the-hammer-using-cash-in-the-attic-to-buy-a-60-munites-makeover-for-a-place-in-the-sun!

There seems to be a culture to push this onto people all day. Yep, I know that just because you're at home in the day it doesn't mean you've got no money, but for people with none who do watch these programmes interspersed with the adverts it must make it all seem rosy in the garden on the other side.

It's like on a Saturday and Sunday morning the ads are full of kids toy ads to really push up the pester power, Christmas ads in October, and Sofas. Then as soon as you'e got through the New Years sales Ads, it's Summer Holidays!!! People are just constantly being encouraged to spend, and spend beyond their means.
And as for that bl**dy Carol Vorderman.... don't know if her ads are still on but she lost a lot of kudos by doing those.

    rant over

    Good Morning:D

  • I was talking to a woman yesterday who works for Christians Against Poverty and she said that the Picture loan advert (the one with the dad tripping over the scooter) had been pulled for trivialising taking out large secured loans at high interest rates, or something like that anyway.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: ............Thanks so much HPL, haven't had much to laugh about this last week but this is brilliant.

To add to the list..... Norton Finance!!! No matter what your circumstances we can help....self employed - no problem!, retired - no problem!, no proof of income - NO PROBLEM!!!! What the hell??
  • My neighbour who is a single mum on benefits was proudly telling me that she has saved for high street vouchers with Provident and how much money she had saved for Christmas, Untill I showed her the interest she had been charged for the privilage of doing this. She's going to put it in a savings account next year!!!

She was also going to get lots of white goods through Brighthouse, so I showed her Freecycle.

My mate once had a leaflet through his door about 3 years ago saying her could have a £50,000 loan NOW! He was already pre-approved.... until I told him to read the APR! 69.9%!!!!
Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.

My mum told me that too. Strange how they haven't got rid of the other one as well.

"Is that thunder at your end or mine? Well, they'd better not cancel the football"

Methinks if you are too stupid to know if it is thundering outside your house or not, you shouldn't be allowed to take out a loan with anyone!

And why is his wife filming him? (Evidence that he refused PPI possibly??)
