Colombia is now a great tourist destination but watch out for these ways you might end up in prison or be handed a hefty fine.

Buying from illegal street traders is illegal and there are many in the Capital Bogota and medellin the second city so beware.

Trafficking, consuming or buying cocaine and other drugs, some may take the view that it is acceptable to do this in Colombia as it is sadly a black market producer, but drugs are outlawed.

Bribing the Police is not acceptable in Colombia, although many think they can just get out of trouble with a handful of Pesos.

Drinking in Public is illegal although many consume beer and alcohol in the town squares, it is up to the Police officer if you get charged.

Riding in an Uber taxi is illegal in Colombia as Uber have not registered as an official taxi service. You may be asked by the Uber driver to give a hug or sit in the front seat, which is a ploy to prevent being detected. You may even be asked at the airport who brought you, if you are spotted arriving in an unmarked car.

Do not overstay your Visa. After 60 days you will be asked for a small tourist fee of about £25. The maximum stay is 90 days without a visa and you can only stay for a maximum of 180 days in any Calendar year.

Generally the Colombian people are pleased you are visiting their country and are extremely pleased to help you join in their community and traditions.
