Travel insurance maybe rejected due to illness?

Hello,

Need some advice as i now worried my travel claim for cancellation might be rejected.

After i booked the holiday, the next month i was being investigated for a condition.

I was diagnosed with a condition but was informed i was fit to fly.

Just few days before condition worsens and was advised not to fly and raised a claim.

I am reading the policy and it mentions i need to inform them of other conditions before i fly but in above instance i have had to cancel before flying rather than informing them.

Any ideas on how the insurance will see it?

Thanks

Chris

Did you know your were to be investigated for a condition before you bought the travel insurance and did you declare this to the insurer?
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

If you booked the insurance before you knew of the condition you should be covered.
The insurer may want to look at your medical records to check this.
  • Hi,

No condition was not there, i have already submitted medical certificate with no pre-existing condition in the last two years.

Condition was a month after booking the trip (travel insurance since 2012 through bank)

This when you should have first contacted your insurers.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Maybe i should have but i didn't as i had read there is possibility they would told me then, they will not cover me for that condition from that point hence cancellation would have been rejected later anyway.

Although i have read the policy in detail and nowhere it mentions to inform them straight away but only mentioning before start of trip i should inform them of a condition which i have.

Just read, the condition i have is part of the waived condition and i dont need to inform them provided i am not waiting for surgery. I was informed i need to have surgery hence had to cancel the trip.

Does being informed you need to have surgery the same as "waiting for surgery"?

EDIT: The only way you'll know for sure is by asking them.

Read up in your policy wording

You will find that you have agreed to inform them of any new conditions that arise before the trip starts!

They then will either continue to cover you or refuse

If they can no longer cover you then you can either continue uninsured or cancel and they would pay your cancellation costs in line with the cancellation cover you have

If you proceed with the trip without informing them of the new condition and subsequently need to make a claim whilst on the trip they have grounds for voiding the policy if the new condition plays any part at all in the claim
