UK holiday insurance that covers failed car hire pick up due to flight delays.

Flying Luton-Inverness. Picking up a hire car for a week and then staying in a selection of hotels. Total cost around £1000. Just want a policy that covers a cancelled or substantially delayed flight which means I would have to book another flight to say Glasgow and hire another car with a different pick up and drop off point. The cost of a new flight and last minute car hire would be around £500.

I can't seem to find any policies that cover that scenario. Policies seem to be European cover with millions in medical cover which I don't need and all sort of other rubbish that a UK holiday would not need.

My reasoning for wanting insurance is that The Highlands and Islands airport group which covers Inverness has a long running dispute with its air traffic controllers who occasionally go on strike for 24 hours. No new strike dates announced so I want to get some cover in place to cover a new flight and car hire to rescue a holiday.

I've never seen a travel insurance cover what you want but If you are so concerned about it why don't you fly directly into Glasgow pick up your hire car and leave from Inverness?

Oh, reading your post again looks like you have already booked the Inverness flight?

Yes the holiday was all booked last year. I never book insurance cover for UK holidays but I am minded to this time as the dispute is protracted. The car hire company( Sixt) also only holds the car for 1 hour from its booking pick up time which is a pain for even normal delays.
