False accusation of driving accident Marker Study Insurance Group

I thought I would start this thread due to a letter in the post out of the blue, telling my partner that a third party had informed them that he had been in an accident and quoting my partner's reg number and they were claiming against him. The alleged accident was 17 July at 00.00. As we were both asleep at home at the time we know it is ridiculous. He called the number and a woman said not to worry about it, the claimant must have got the reg no wrong so he explained that he had not been in any accident the vehicle was locked up in the garage. He was told he would have to write and explain denying liability with photos of the vehicle and i had to also write a letter as an alibi. We have heard nothing since.
Recently he has now started getting phone calls from various numbers asking about "his accident" and saying they work in partnership with Marker Study Group. Nuisance calls really. As marker study group are so bad I have seen the reviews I will endeavour to not renew any of my policies if they are underwritten by Marker Study as they are this bad. By the way I can assure you lovely people that he hasn't had any accident. There isn't any insurance claim, I feel sorry for the person who is claiming (hopefully genuine) that they do get the person that hit them.

What we don’t get is how Marker Study pay out without checking the facts.
They did attempt to check the facts but your partner wasn't around to give them.

I suggest he calls them immediately.

    OMG -It's Marker Study

Take a look at their track record on Trustpilot and confirm for yourself they are the very last people you want in your life.

    FORGET THE PHONE
Write to them, (with certificate of posting), setting out the details and dates of letters received, and the telephone conversations.

Deny that your vehicle has been involved any incident and that as you informed them of this at the outset, you regard their continued phone calls & letters as harassment which is actionable in law

Chances are that MS do have claim and somehow the car Reg. No. has been mistaken, but MS are seeking another insurer to pay part of the costs and won't stop till they find one - Hopefully your letter will encourage them to take a hard look at their prime evidence.

Hi I am sorry I don't understand your comment. Call who. He has already telephoned Marker Study Group. Secondly, how can they check the facts when the wrong index plate was given? Using DVLA they just wrote to our home address. Now an innocent party has to prove the vehicle was locked up and not involved in an accident at all. Possible cloned plate comes to mind!
He needs to keep calling them (MS) to sort it out. I don't see any other way of doing it.

They could instruct someone to come around to your home, check your vehicle for damage and take statements.

To be clear Marker Study are your partners insurers? If it is the address on the policy then they wouldn't have needed to go via the DVLA.

Yes, especially if the insurer won't do some basic enquiries and are instead happy to just quickly pay out the 3rd party.

    Yes, possible but unlikely.
  • So looks like, we all need dash cams and driveway/garage cams to prove where our car is at all the times? It seems to me, that there's more stories like these on the forums. There's similar one on Pistonheads, where owner tries to fight his insurance company, to not pay fraudulent claim and put fault claim on his record.

Maybe insurance companies started to do more cost cutting and it's cheaper for them to pay rather then investigate.

Put the boot on the other foot...

Somebody drove into your car and then did a runner. But it's OK, you got their plate.
Would you want YOUR insurer to just make a single phone call and "Nah, wasn't me, honest. I was in bed. Must be a clone." as the absolute and unquestionable truth, with no more digging than that?

Admit it, you'd be spitting feathers at their incompetence and laxness, wouldn't you?

Marker Study are the underwriters of his policy. The policy is through zenith it is very crafty we didn’t even know they were the underwriters.
Hardly crafty, it mentions them four times on Zenith's homepage! It's also on the "About us" section and all over their policy documents which your partner will have stated he has read and understood. How did he not know?

Motorcycle locked in a garage, my motorcycle in front of the garage door, two closed wooden gates, a locked car in front of the driveway. Unless OH drugged me, took my bike keys, moved the car, unlocked the garage, moved my bike. You get the picture. If his bike hit his vehicle he would have come off a lot worse and would certainly know about it. They assumed in their letter that we had already contacted to make a claim for damages, but obviously this is not the case as there is no claim. :j

No thanks. It’s not me that needs to read them.

It’s clear you have an answer to everything and anybody. I’m not quite sure why you’ve posted.
