Interim or Full Service?
Comments

Depends on your mileage, the type of mileage, when it last had a full service and what is done at a full that isn’t done at an interim.0

Sell it and get an electric car.0

I would suggest finding out what the device schedule for the car is and just sticking with that.
In most cases an interim service is just an oil and filter change along with some visual checks. A full service may include an air filter and fuel filter in addition to this. A lot of other things will be additional and based on time or miles covered (brake fluid, drive belt etc etc).
Personally on an older car I prefer to do the work myself and save on the labour, by doing this the equivalent of a full service costs me about £25 in oil and parts, I appreciate this may not be an option for you though.
You could also consider using a chain like National Tyres who do an oil and filter change for roughly £50 and can add any additional work on as per the service schedule.0 -
Can you check here and let me know if Full is needed or the Interim would suffice?

What did you have done last time? When did it last have a full service?0

If you look at what's included in both of those it's a lot of checks and not much actual work. The interim service is an oil and filter change, the full service adds an air filter.
If you would like a report telling you the longer list if things is ok then it may be worth it however there's nothing on that list that needs a specialist to check.
From a saving money perspective I would still suggest just getting an oil change and air filter if due along with other items as specified by your cars manufacturer.0 -

I would agree, get the interim service done the oil change is probably one of the most important things to do. The air filter you can probably buy for £5 and a youtube video will show you how to fit it in less than 5 mins. Only thing to be really careful about is if your car has a cam belt or chain, if a belt and it needs replacing its quite expensive but if you dont you risk it breaking and whole engine broken.0 -

Unfortunately, people like op dont know a thing sbout maintaining their cars and its probably a good idea to do all this checking.
Stick to one deceblnt garage, get all the work done from them and let them look after your maintenance. They know what was done on it.
If it were me though, change things according to your service interval, they all fall at differebt times of the year. Let the mot guy thoroughly unspect thd underbody of the car and suggest work needing doing.
The only exception is the oil. I change them a bit earlier at 6to7k miles. Not 12k like the manufacturer suggests.0 -
Hello
I have an old car which I do not use much.
It's been a year since it was serviced. It is a 2006 auto diesel.
The full service costs £60 more.
Is it worth it or I could only do interim service every year?
Thanks!
If it barely driven then a lot of the stuff can be done based on mileage. Air filter, cabin filter, spark plugs etc are part of the major service and you can do them all by mileage. Some apark plugs have 40k service life, cabin filter and air filter have 20k and 12k respectively. But honestly you just tske it out and replace itvif its dirty.
Thd engine oil, brake fluid and to a lessor extent oil filter should ve done annually as oil can go bad. If i was doing my own car id leave the oil filter out and do it with the major service. Something about oil filters not dven being effective until after 5k miles0
