Can you claim back PPI on a Mortgage started more than 30 years ago?

Options
I just read that if a person's had a mortgage over the last 30 years they may have been miss sold PPI

But I didn't understand if this meant a mortgage started within the last 30 years or one that is being paid off within the last 30 years.

Basically I'm thinking of my parents who bought their only house approx 40 years ago and I know the mortgage has been paid off since.

No idea who they had their mortgage with.

PPI wasn't available in 1979, so only if they re-mortgaged at a later date is this worth investigating further.

You don't know who the lender was and there is very unlikely to be any record of four decades old finance in any case.
