London underground, which ticket?

To keep it simple, this is all in one day.

Paddington to Baker Street

Baker Street to Paddington

This is all on the same line - Bakerloo line - both stations in zone 1.

1 adult and 1 child (12), the tricky part - tickets.

I tried looking and baffled, an example use con-tactless card:
https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/how-to-pay-and-where-to-buy-tickets-and-oyster/pay-as-you-go/contactless-and-mobile-pay-as-you-go?intcmp=55539
Use a contactless card or mobile device for adult rate pay as you go travel on all our transport services.

Guess with a child it's not possible.

Oyster Card:
https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/how-to-pay-and-where-to-buy-tickets-and-oyster/buying-tickets-and-oyster
You need to pay a £5 deposit for an Oyster card.

If I worked out it out right, it will be £2.40 for myself and only 75p for the child:

Wasting £6.80 left on the card.

Any other ideas? Cheers

Use a contactless card for yourself and buy a child ticket at the station.

You could also use a different contactless card for the child but that would be charged at the adult rate. Not the cheapest option but it's easy and cheaper than getting an Oyster card and leaving money on it if you won't use it (although you can get a refund on credit).

A child cash fare is the same as an adult Oyster/Contactless fare in this case.

Alternatively you could do this journey on the 27 bus.

If you have two forms of contactless use the bus.

    £1.50 each per journey.

Walk? It is about a mile between Paddington Station and Baker Street tube station.

Thank you all, it's best if I the pay as go using my bank card (cheaper than paper ticket) and buying a paper ticket for the child.

Adult ticket alone is £9.80 (return), unsure what pay as you go is.

Child ticket will be £4.80 (return)- cheaper than a visitor oyster card.

Adult fare is £2.40 with contactless, £4.90 with cash single.

Child fare is £0.85 peak or £0.75 off peak with oyster, £2.40 cash. single.

I would have gone oyster for the child but they charge £5, so not saving :(
  • You get the £5 deposit back when you remit the Oyster, either at the ticket office or machine. Tap the Oyster and select refund. Plus any credit remaining. Good to know for next time

Isn't contactless capped at £7 per day for an adult?

We went to London in July for a day trip and used contactless for the tube and DLR, and we didn't pay any more than £7 each.
