Isn't contactless capped at £7 per day for an adult?
The cap depends upon when and which zones you travel in:

Yes but if you read post 1 it’s Paddington to Baker Street which is zone 1 and £7.

For such a short journey I think I'd go for the bus as it's a direct journey. £1.50 a head each way with contactless cards and I think the child would travel free.

I used to do the journey quite frequently on the 205 and the return journey used to take ages around Marylebone station.
The traffic lights from the back road at Marylebone onto the main road towards Paddington only let out about one vehicle every few minutes at busy times.
    6 minutes by tube.

I love the buses but I don’t get them if its Time critical.

It changed fairly recently and westbound buses no longer loop into Marylebone station so it is much improved. I agree it used to cause a lot of hold-ups. Eastbound buses still serve the station but it's a much simpler manoeuvre.

Some of the children's prices being quoted here are for when the child has a zip card. If using an oyster with child added by staff, the price of a journey is half the adult price.

Why not walk? By the time you've navigated to the Bakerloo Line, waited for the train and navigated your way back out the station, you'll probably have been able to walk there.
Depends how close to the station you're trying to get to as well
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

I don't think I would for this journey as it is 25 minutes or so along busy roads. On a nice day lots of other journeys in London make for very pleasant walks if you can go along quiet streets or through parks but I don't think this is one of them.

I would go on the Circle (or H&C) line. Does it have to be the Bakerloo line?
