in Phones & TV
I have a friend that has been taken to the cleaners by Sky. They were duped over the phone into thinking this package was a good deal and have renewed the contract some months ago..
Box Sets - £41.50
Sky Sports - Complete Pack - £28
Sky Cinema - £11
HD Basic - Free
Sky Sports HD - £6
Sky Q Multiscreen Pack - £13
Sky Broadband Unlimited £12.01
Sky Talk Line Rental - £18.99
Sky WiFi - Free
Sky Talk Anytime Extra - £10
Bill Total £140.50
So that's £99.50 on TV and £31 for BASIC BROADBAND! She receives 10mbps speed!
She can receive 70mbps fibre but they put her on the basic broadband package and totally ripped her off.
Can all of the TV be removed? Definitely recommending she puts a complaint in, this is such a ripoff.

Check the T&Cs, you'll probably find there is no ability to exit the TV package early. How long ago is "some months"?
I very much doubt "scam" is the right word here, because that price is discounted to some degree - Cinema out of contract is £18 a month as it is and I presume its the old "box sets" package she's on, not the new "Entertainment" with £5 box sets.
Unfortunately if your friend entered into the agreement and she was happy with the prices quoted at the time then with all due respect, what does it have to do with you what she pays? The fact she now isn't happy with those prices and could do far far better is to a point immaterial at this stage.0 -

They've not been duped, scammed or ripped off, presuming your friend is an adult they've agreed to a very poor deal with minimum discount.
Either send a letter to:
Customer Complaints
Sky Subscribers Services Ltd
PO Box 43
Livingston
West Lothian
EH54 7DD
or an email to either:
jeremy.darroch@bskyb.com
estenquiries@bskyb.com
Hopefully they'll have a look and call her back with a more suitable offer. Be aware that this will be for a new minimum term and that since she's already signed up for an existing minimum term the ball is very much in Sky s court so don't get antsy with them as they're quite within their rights to refuse to do a deal.
Personally I've always found Sky (and NowTV) very easy to deal with but you do need to know what it is you're asking for beforehand.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
I do think they duped her into a lousy deal as they sold her basic broadband for the price of fibre and from what I was told, they told her it was the best package they could offer.
Sky and other ISPs love to prey on people that are not as clued up as we are about what packages are available and what price they should be.
I will for sure recommend she chases this up, it's terrible of Sky.0 -

Sky (and all other suppliers and come to that almost every single sector out there) are capitalist companies that were setup to make money, not as a charity. They're not going to offer anybody their 'best' offer at first contact. They have to maximise profits from agents up as their jobs really do rely on it.
The only sector that doesn't (from memory) are the energy companies as that is enforced by law.
It's only in fantasy land where any other rules apply I'm afraid.0 -
Yep i'm aware of that however there is no additional cost for them to offer fibre instead, flip of a switch more or less.0

They actually have access to a Plex server with more content than Sky has to offer, they just need a better internet connection for a better experience.0
