    Yes - that's a good buy

Business grade with good spec and a decent enough price
  • Depending on the price point and brand you are considering, you might get a student discount - for example Lenovo and HP have student discount schemes (although the amount of discount varies depending on what they are trying to get rid of!)

dont try to surprise her with a laptop. tell her what she wants or just give her the money to buy it. If you want to surprise her, do it with someone else.

Might be hell bent on a shiny new £1500 macbook, and a PC just wont do.

You might thing for netflix a cheap laptop would do. I can assure you that the difference in viewing experience is vast between a £150 refurbished dell and a macbook. The viewing angles, colour etc. Vastly different.

I have a dell e6230 which I use for emails, internet etc. The screen is fine for emails but horrible for watching videos. You have something like a 5 degree viewing angle. If you dont get the screen angle just right, the colours will appear all wrong. Sometimes when you have the laptop close to your face, such as in bed. The colours will be fine on the top of the screen but look flush on the bottom (vice versa), because the viewing angle is different on one part of the screen than the other.

macbooks cant be beat for their screens. You might want to research the screen technology Apple use on their laptops and find a windows laptop that uses the same tech.

Dell inspirons are more for business and the screen are rubbish on them
