PPI and Santander

Hi

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck getting PPI from Abbey National/Santander?

We had a mortgage with them from 1997 until 2013 when we paid it off. We have tried to get them to look for any PPI and they keep coming back account unknown. We gave them copies of their letters to us with the account number on it but still they came back account unknown.

Part of it was interest only (an endowment and of course we didn't get anything back from that either as we got our's in 1987 just before the cut off) and the other was a repayment.

Really don't know where to go from here. Any help would be much appreciated.

If they have no records it's game over and they do seem to be saying that.

An account number is no good by itself unless you a) took out insurance with them and b) they still have records.
The FSA recommend keeping data for six years or until it isn't needed. Six years after your mortgage finished would indicate they have destroyed your records.
If you want to be sure you send a SAR but given the time remaining to complain, I don't know if it would be worth it for you.

    Yes they have.

If you had MPPi it would not have been built into the mortgage. So, telling them about the mortgage account doesnt help them find if you had PPI.

Also, if you arranged your mortgage with a broker/adviser/estate agent, then they would not use Santandar insurance products. Santander would not be supplied with any of the insurance details.

Thank you for all your replies.

We didn't go through a broker at least not that l remember. We moved our mortgage from Northern Rock (no luck there either now that they don't exist) and went into their branch to go through everything and we split our mortgage into a repayment and interest only (the endowment was still running) so all we have is the mortgage number they gave us.

I guess we have lost out again.

  • Hi all,
I was adamant for years that I have never had PPI so never bothered checking. I recently got injured playing football and couldn’t move for over a week.
I kept on seeing the PPI deadline flashing up. As I had nothing to do I filled every form in online for every bank I thought I had ever been associated to for either a loan or credit card.
A few weeks later I had received numerous negative PPI letters through the post. Then I received the ‘Santander’ letter that had about 5 account numbers and one which said ‘PPI - YES’
I have filled in the complaint online form and sent it off to Santander about 6 weeks ago. I received a letter/ form asking for me to sign so that money could go straight in via BACS (Is this normal for all complaints does anybody know??)
Anyway I rang last week intrigued to know what I had PPI on. It turns out it was a Mortgage from 2004. I know I was on a 2 year fixed back then and the woman on the phone told me they were close to making a decision. They’ve got until 20/8/19 (8 weeks since complaint) Watch this space..

Hi All. I had a Loan with A&L, which is now Santander. The policy was with an ex partner but the documentation I had only showed my name. I sent off to claim my miss sold PPI on the Loan and got a letter back in joint names which was a bit of a shock, stating they'd uphold my PPI claim. Anyway, they asked for both signatures and bank account details to pay the money to. I sent a letter back stating the relationship was over many years ago and I had no desire to contact the ex partner and was willing to accept 50% even though it pained me to do so. I'd already filled in the bank account details form and returned this with my response. They wrote back to say they'd agree to the 50%. Which I was pleased with.
I also had a sole Cahoot Credit Card which turns out to be Santander also. I've claimed my miss sold PPI but they're dragging their feet and have responded once to say they're 'investigating'. I have resent all the information last week with account numbers and even a letter stating they'd cancelled the PPI as I'd paid off the card and closed the account. We will see what happens.
