Hydrangea cutting
After years of trying dad has finally managed to get one of 8 hydrangea cuttings to grow :T
Thing is than now he is unsure on what to do next, does he leave it in the pot over the winter or transplant it to the ground now?
it has been in the pot for about a year.

No clues here about how large the cutting is, but it will probably be happiest in the ground, provided it's not an exposed spot as there is still time for it to get its roots down.
I don't do hydrangea cuttings in pots, or indeed any others, apart from easy subjects like salvias. If Dad wants more success, an area of ground in a shaded (not dark) spot, improved with grit and compost and enclosed by an easily knocked-up wooden frame 300mmm high will provide good conditions. Keep watered in dry weather and cover with an old window unit in winter. Works a treat.0 -
It is well established in the pot with plenty of growth both above an below soil level, if it was on sale in a garden centre it would be priced at £30 it is that big.
Dad has picked out a spot in the garden for it and will get digging it in ASAP.
Thanks :T0 -
Just remind dad to water it even in the ground in this weather, be a shame to lose it after all the strugglesGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0
