O/S Daily Monday 5 August 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy and overcast start to the day, we had a very heavy downpour that lasted no longer than a few minutes last night, but had nothing since, but it's still warm and humid. Rain is forecast for today at some point.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my cuppa and porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Lunch yesterday was roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrot, HG green beans, peas, HG sprouting brocolli, peas, yorkshires and gravy - was delicious and there's LO's of pork, roasties, yorkshires and some veg - so they will be used for am easy evening meal - possibly Weds evening. Tonight's dinner will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.

Back to work today for me, we were quite busy on Saturday - so no idea what today will bring. Prefer busy though as the day flies past.

We were reasonably productive yesterday whilst I prepped and cooked lunch, then the pack ups the menfolk got into the garage and gave it a good sweep out and a tidy - ideal to do whilst it's standing empty and it'll be ready for when the engineers come out to look and decide what's the best way forward. I'm really hoping I can get them out at the end of week, so at least we know what we can do and the cost.

Keep safe and well x

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I posted a new thread at the same time as nmlc so I have just tried to delete it.

It's been a bit of a weird morning so far, I thought Steve was ok when he got up early for work but he has just ranted at me about Lilly's attitude so it must have been festering away all weekend. Lilly went out clubbing and brought back a couple of her friends without asking if it was ok. One we didn't mind as she is her bestie but the other one was a complete stranger to us. Steve was not happy at all and did the "she treats this place like a hotel" speech to me. Uuuurgh, not what I want to hear or cope with at 5.30am, ho hum!

I feel a bit rattled but will try to ignore it all for now. Lilly won't surface till after lunch anyway. Lee has the orthodontist this afternoon so I will book him a taxi once it gets to a more reasonable hour. Phoebe has a day off so she will just be chilling.

I want to make a meal plan for this week so will get my recipe books out and my thinking cap on. I need a change from our regular meals as I am a bit bored with them now. I know there is chicken and minced beef lurking in the depths of the freezer so will try and find something different to do with those for a start.

I am inspired by the weight loss successes of some of the posters on this thread and others so will be making more of an effort, especially during the Summer holidays as it is a nice block of time when I can achieve something positive. My sister is still doing Slimming World so I will weigh in on the same day so we can encourage each other.

I have the nurse coming today but I don't know if I will be able to bear having the compression stockings on as my poor legs are very sore at the moment. I will see who comes as some of them are a bit rougher than others.

I am thinking of all of you who are struggling, whether with your own health or that of a loved one and sending out cwtches and hugs galore. It is also lovely to see all our travellers safely return from their holidays. I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning all

I'm laid in bed trying to be quiet as the DGC are still asleep, the longer they sleep the better!

We had a fabulous afternoon at DDs, lovely food and good company, we were sat outside until there was a huge downpour. Rain forecast for much of today but we'll find something to do.

Hugs to all, take care. Xx
  • Morning folks and thanks for the start NMLC. I had a better sleep last night and feel a bit less down and bereft than I did yesterday thankfully.

The DGDs are getting dropped off shortly as DD is working. She is then whizzing in for them around 3.00 for a quick tea party with the youngest's friends as it's her birthday tomorrow. Then she and her bf are taking them all to a Laser Zone for her birthday treat. DD said I was welcome to join them but it all sounds a bit too manic for me!

We had overnight rain by the look of it but the forecast is now sun for the rest of the day. That'll do nicely! The front garden is looking a bit bedraggled now. I got rid of the pots on the top step yesterday as the plants were beginning to look a real mess. All leggy and straggly, flowers dropping everywhere, and in danger of tripping me up when I came out. It looks very bare now but I am undecided whether to replace them or not.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need or want of them. Thinking of the poorlies and our absent friends. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Its been raining over night and is still a bit drizzly now its meant to brighten up this afternoon though.

We walked 6 miles yesterday, I have been suffering with Plantar Fasciitis for a few years now the pain is very intense, all the time I am walking its bearable but as soon as I stop it gets worse and worse, I was in such pain last night that I went to bed at 9, Im going to phone the DR today to see if he can help at all, i am popping pain killers every four hrs at the moment, I don't think my job helps as I am on my feet all day every day.

Something with chicken tonight I might do a PON recipie for coated chicken breast with some sweet potato fries and salad.

Washing to be put away tonight and will have a sweep through downstairs.

    Have good days all xx

Good morning, it's fine here at the moment.
Yesterday was warm and sunny, then after tea it clouded over, and we eventually had a big thunderstorm.

More preparations were done towards our holiday, we went over to the caravan with more stuff, and put it away, ,nowt worse than bags of stuff standing about, with the other stuff that has to travel in the van when we're on the road, the awning and water containers etc.

TA, glad you're sounding a bit better today. Whatever Laser Zone is I wouldn't want to go either!!

Redrruby, hope the doc can offer some help for your foot, sounds painful.

You seem to be getting back in the swing of things Camelot.

Dumpling, I can still remember the joys of life with teenagers!!

NMLC, hope the repair of your garage door won't cost too much, there's always something needing done

Hope everyone has a good day
    Take care folks xx

    Morning folks
TA - thinking of you ((hugs)). I’m glad you have had a good sleep. Or at least a better one.
Redruby- I’m sure someone else on Old Style experiences the same. Will have a think and if I remember who it is I’ll PM you. Hope you find some way to ease it.
Rain forecast here. I lived in Suffolk for nearly twenty years and the summers were long and hot! I remember sitting in the back garden in the rain and being glad to cool down.

Better crack on as I’m back at work this week.

    Morning all.

What a hot / humid night it was here, must have been raining.

Yesterday morning I went out for a walk around the streets before showering. I knew I'd come back in need of a shower as it was so hot. The wander round the blocks was interesting as well as good for me.

DM got dressed and up later as a neighbour was calling in to see her; he's selling his flat and only in Glasgow to clear it out and paint it alongside his parents who came down from the Granite City to help. She's not really getting any stronger though at least eating a little more.

This morning I'm back off to the cinema again. After the gentle and happy 'Yesterday' of last week, this time I'm going to see 'Fast and Furious'. Not really my thing but I'll enjoy the experience. :rotfl:

Dumpling - so sorry to hear of your troublesome teenager, hopefully it's just a phase!

Redruby - ouch! Surely the doc can refer you for some kind of insoles or footwear.

TA - a bit of peace and quiet sounds just the job.

Camelot - sounds like you won't get much of that peace and quiet! School's back next week too.

Snoozer - I've found 'Lucifer' and 'Dark Mirror' on Netflix so will binge watch them in the free month.

Thoughts to those struggling - and a happy Monday to everyone.
  • REDRUBY my friend suffered badly with Plantar Fascilitis and last winter she was told about Dr Sock Soothers. She ordered some from the 'net and couldn't believe how much they improved the painful condition. They might be worth a try though it's hardly the weather for wearing compression socks just now unfortunately. x

Gers, Laura and Brian were here this weekend and they have just started watching Line of Duty from the beginning so I may have to continue with that. They got cross with Steve because he inadvertantly revealed (a very small) spoiler. Not half as big as the one I blurted during the first season of GoT, I don't even watch the thing but had read about the death of a major character. I've not been allowed to forget it.

Dumpling, fingers crossed for a gentle nurse.

Redruby, ouch I sympathise, hope it feels better soon.

We had a lovely weekend, walk and bbq with the kids on Saturday and then Laura and I went shopping in Cambridge although without much success. She managed to buy a swimsuit that fitted in the end but that was about it.

BTW, mentioning Cambridge, I've been meaning to ask if anyone's heard anything from Lainey lately.

Morning all, d day for hospital results, not sure if he will make it there.
Meeting with friend went well, good catch up and i had a good moan.
Maybe bbl, busy doing breakfast now.

Rr, I had it for years, went the whole nine yards with an op as well. They usually give you a steroid injection in your feet and tell you to stay off them for two weeks then various treatments after that. Best thing to walk in I found was Fitflops ,they're expensive unless there's a sale on but totally worth it.
