Morning£101.99 per month !! Why? Who are the insurance company and how long have you been paying that amount?
:rotfl:Thank you for sharing my outrage! It's a ridiculous monthly payment  It's with PetPlan and is their top lifetime cover. It's gone up each year, hate to think what the next renewal quote will be! Just got a quote from KC and for similar cover they want £95 month, got really excited because at first I thought it was £95 for the year :rotfl: Shame because I've heard they're very good too and would have felt comfortable switching to them.Is there any reason you can think of for the pet insurance to be that high
Think the breed has something to do with it, not that they're particularly troublesome healthwise so who really knows. He was 7 in January and that makes me even more anxious about cancelling. Our premiums have gone up each year with PetPlan, started slowly and must have jumped significantly at some point to be where we are now. Have only claimed a couple of times (once for a cut paw on a bank holiday that resulted in a bill of £570 ) and one good thing is they've always paid out without fuss. You’re storming along with the progress, well done!
Thank youI'm so tempted to actually pay a bit off something but I know that it's better to wait till the end of the month so I can see exactly where we're at, especially as it looks like we'll have to pay some towards a new car for DH. If things go to plan, by the end of the month we should have an emergency fund of £500 set up. Thinking it would be better to use this to help pay for the car along with the electricity/gas refund if it comes through in time rather than having to put it on a credit card. Really, really don't want those balances to get any higher.
In other news, I strapped on my big girl pants this morning and went and got my smear test done :T It was overdue by a year and I always wonder why I put it off afterwards because it's really not so bad. Now the wait for the results, fingers crossed.
Off out with the kids this afternoon and hoping it doesn't cost too much!
Have a great day :wave:0 -
Do you need the top level cover, or would you feel comfortable with lower overall claim limits? Might be worth phoning up Petplan and asking what the cost would be if you moved down a tier or two, to one of the mid range options for cover where they still offer lifetime cover for each condition, but with lower overall claim limits - I have one of the middle ones and it still covers dentals etc.
Having said that, with my elderly cats I now have a 20% excess on each claim - I’m still coming out ahead (one of them needs a lot of meds), but it’s worth bearing in mind when looking at costs.Debt at LBM (Dec 2018): £23,167

Hope you find a lower cost insurer. You need to weigh up whether if the pet cost more than the insurance you would be able to say goodbye. No good cancelling if an emergency was to happen and you would keep forking out. I do agree with others about checking other cover options available elsewhere.
On quidco - if you haven't already joined - me or others on here could pm you a referral code and the a joining bonus could be share... I'm at over £1600 paid out since I joined quidco.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

That's a good point! Hadn't even considered this...will have a look. Thank you!You need to weigh up whether if the pet cost more than the insurance you would be able to say goodbye. No good cancelling if an emergency was to happen and you would keep forking out.
This is what worries me. When our old dog got sick we racked up vets bills of well over £1000 in a matter of days and the ongoing cost of meds was horrific. When they suggested sending him to a specialist I would have gladly remortgaged the house to fund it if DH hadn't stepped in as the voice of reason  As much as we all adored him, he was 11 years old and we needed to consider the future for the kids as well as the dog. I'm just a sucker for anything with four paws and fur!
Bowling this afternoon was lovely but pushed me over our entertainment budget a little. Have re-jigged other pots to cover it so still on target this month at the moment. Still haven't heard back from the garage about DH's car so no idea what that's going to cost (again!!!!) yet. Have allocated £148.14 in the budget so far and hoping this will be enough... In the meantime he's having to use my car so I've decided I might as well have a little drink tonight seeing as I definitely won't be driving anywhereCheers!
