I would personally move all you can to 0%, it'll save you money, even if you're only transferring £800-1000.
I think there's an acceptance indicator on the site somewhere, they assess your likelihood of getting a card without it going on your credit file (I think) have a look in the cards sections of the site.
If you do get one, I'd move the Very debt over onto it, that's got a really high interest rate.
26 months doesn't sound too bad and you might be able to shave more off that with any luckDFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

Yeah I guess the more on 0% the better! Have had a look at our credit reports and as we've just taken out new 0% cards I don't think we'll get anything else for a while. DH looks like he might get a Halifax 0% card (90% chance of acceptance) but think I'd rather wait until at least next month and see what the credit report looks like again then. Yeah, you're right, I'd be better paying the Very account first. Should have thought about it more before I did the big balance transfers but too late now.
On a plus note, I've realised I can see the latest Tesco balance on my credit report. I'd guessed at £11,500 and it says it's actually £11,072. £428 less than I'd predicted
Had a look at some of the challenges and I've signed up to Prolific to try and earn a little extra doing surveys. Any other recommendations?
Been really lazy today. Need to write myself a to-do list for tomorrow or I just end up doing nothing! The long summer holiday is lovely but I do end up getting a bit too out of routine. Have started sorting out next month's budget on YNAB and might try and do a meal plan for the rest of this week later.
Hope everyone is having a nice evening0 -
Just popping in to wish you good luck. Sounds as though you're getting your head screwed on the right way, and it's amazing how positive it can make you feel when you start getting things under control.

Thank you
Long road ahead so glad of all the support I can get. Will be so good to have other people to discuss it all with as I wouldn't feel comfortable sharing it in 'real life'. Have you got a diary on here? Looking to subscribe to some to help keep me motivated

Morning :hello:
Going to write myself a to-do list so that hopefully I get a bit more done today! Have already checked online banking (all as expected), checked all emails (had a massive backlog on 2 accounts which I cleared on Sunday and need to keep on top of them now) and completed my first paid Prolific survey (50p ). I've also checked credit card accounts (apart from Tesco, still waiting for log in info through the post) and the Barclaycard balance transfer is showing as pending, £10,000 that will be 0% leaving a balance of under £100. Wondering if they will still take the direct debit later in the month now? If so we'll end up in credit. Would really like to pay off the balance as soon as the balance transfer clears but if they do still collect the direct debit that would make us even further in credit...any advice appreciated. The Halifax card has had interest added today so have added that to YNAB and the balance has gone up by £38.52.
Plan for the rest of the day:- Call the doctor and book the dreaded smear test
- Go to the bottle bank and drop off the million glass jars and bottles we have
- Visit my mum and hopefully take her out for a walk before DS leaves tomorrow
- Write a meal plan (didn't get this done yesterday)
- Dye my hair (already have the dye so free
)
- Find some diaries to subscribe to (recommendations welcome)
I'm well in to the process of turning nocturnal, happens every time I'm on holiday and don't have to be up. Need to try and get back into a better bedtime routine, was 3am before I went to sleep last night. More tired being at home than at work today!
Better get on I suppose! Have a good day :wave:0 -
I’m pretty sure that Barclaycard DO count a transfer or earlier payment and reduce the DD accordingly. Whilst Virgin do not, and take the payment regardless. I was looking at this quite recently and found it in the small print somewhere on the statements I think.
Have a good day :-)0 -
Just wanted to say hi! Not sure re the interest but are you sure the apr isn't buried somewhere on the statement? (I've just had to look mine up and know it was somewhere in amongst all the small text!) Good luck!
Thank you for taking the time to respondYou were right and Barclaycard won't be taking anything by direct debit now this month

Hey to anyone who drops by! :hello:
I haven't posted in a few days but have been on track and been busy continuing to try and sort things.
Our new Virgin credit cards arrived in the post having clearly both been opened and potentially rifled through. Called and cancelled and new ones on the way. Also called the post office to complain and they have confirmed they will be investigating! Have also managed to get another 0% deal (20 months and 0% transfer fee too) by taking out another new card. Have transferred £5,700 from the Capital One card which will leave the balance on that one at £3,139.11. I don't like taking out additional lines of credit but can't do the shuffle at the moment so it's better than paying the interest.
New BT bill has arrived and checked to see they've charged us £16 a month for BT sport when we were told it would be free for the next 12 months  Called and complained to be told that we shouldn't have been offered that deal but as a goodwill gesture they would offer us a reduction  Told them that wasn't the agreement and I would not be paying a penny, they would either have to honour the offer or cancel our contract. After pointing out that they could listen back to the call to confirm we were correct in what we had been told, they finally agreed we would get it free and that the £16 (+ £1.68 added to cover part of last month) would be refunded. :T If this had happened before i would have just accepted the charge to save hassle and in fact would probably not have even realised we were being overcharged :embarasse
My cancellation of my union membership has been confirmed too. New union is free for the first 12 months so that will save us a little over £150 too :T
I've submitted meter readings as we're changing supplier and had a moment of panic when a box popped up to say that they were not as expected and to check and adjust. Checked and they were right. Decided we must have used way more than they had predicted and would likely just have to face up to a huge bill. Did some calculations and (providing I've worked it all out right) I think we've actually used less than they expected. Fingers crossed it looks like we might be due a refund of around £400 :j Online account has updated and looks like I'm due a refund of about £330 as the prices have gone up. Happy with this after the mini heart attack when I thought we owed loads :rotfl:
Have been checking and completing surveys on OnePoll and Prolific and currently have balances of £7.15 and £2.77  Any other recommendations for survey sites? Have tried Swagbucks but seem to constantly be declined after having answered loads of questions which has put me off.
On the not so positive front, DH's car is yet again in the garage and the mechanic has told him to get rid of it. We haven't had it long (bought last November) and it's been nothing but trouble. Hazards of buying a used car I guess. Plan is to get it sold as soon as possible either by private sale or, more likely, as a trade in on another car. Unlikely that we'll get enough for it that we won't have to pay extra so that will no doubt be an additional debt at this point. Wish we could go down to one car but unfortunately we both need a car for work(DH has a 50 mile round trip and I sometimes have to bring home piles of marking)
Taking the kids out for the first time in ages tomorrow so will go over our £50 entertainment budget this month but I'm going to adjust the grocery budget to cover it. I've also done the grown up thing and declined going out to lunch later in the week with friends to save the money instead.
Still battling with the idea of cancelling our pet insurance. At £101.99 per month for one 7-year old dog I know it's ridiculous  Just worried that if I cancel it and he gets sick like the last one we wouldn't be able to afford treatment. Reviews on cheaper providers don't inspire much confidence either as there seem to be plenty of cases of insurance companies refusing to pay out when people actually claim. Any advice appreciated!0 -
£101.99 per month !!  Why? Who are the insurance company and how long have you been paying that amount?
Mine are insured with the Kennel Club. 8 year old on permanent medication for allergies and also had 2 claims for teeth removal, costs around £39 monthly. 5 year old - 1 claim for tooth abscess and removal of tooth, costs around £32 monthly. No problems claiming, but I think KC are quite expensive compared to some pet insurances. (I'm just too bloody lazy to switch!)
If you look at pet insurance comparison sites through either Quidco or Topcashback you should get cashback if you take out insurance through them. You can always check the reviews before you follow through.
If your dog has had any health problems in the past a new insurer is unlikely to insure for that complaint, so check it out first.
Wishing you Good Luck with everything XI Believe.....

You’re storming along with the progress, well done!
Is there any reason you can think of for the pet insurance to be that high - any pre-existing conditions or earlier surgeries? Or a breed known for problems? 7 is also a tricky age as it’s on the cusp of being considered a senior so other companies might only offer limited insurance. I’ve had friends caught out by huge premium hikes round that point, especially if they have lifetime cover and preexisting conditions that mean they can’t really move to another provider. I’m with petplan who I haven’t heard of doing that (though I could be wrong).
So this isn’t very helpful I’m afraid! I get your dilemma - that’s a huge amount, and yet I always think pet insurance is worth it having had a few older pets racking up massive vet bills. I’d be unsure what to do too.Debt at LBM (Dec 2018): £23,167
