Rightmove "no longer on the market"

As we are making our journey through the purchase of our house (fingers crossed!), I have a list of houses in my Rightmove favourites that we've seen or potentials in case anything went wrong. As you can imagine, many houses I've bookmarked in April / May are now "Sold STC". But I was looking at it today (being nosy about whether houses we didn't pick got sold) I noticed that quite a few of them are listed as "No longer on the market". Does that mean they were withdrawn? Or that they completed?

    Can mean both

I done the same as you and have also been wondering if they've gone through or not

However I just exchanged contracts and the house I'm purchasing has now gone up as 'no longer on the market' being completed this Friday

It means the EA marketing the property has removed the advert.

Our old house (which we completed on) says no longer on the market, but it can also mean that the house has been removed from sale, or the vendor has ended their contract with that agent and is marketing it with another agent.

Basically the EA that placed that advert is no longer promoting it for one of those reasons.

Yep, it will mean different things to different houses/agents. The house we’re currently buying is listed as no longer on the market.

Oh, very interesting. And I also understand that if it shows as that because it's actually been sold, the sale information won't show up for some time, while LR records are updated and synced to Rightmove?

It would be SSTC for weeks if not months, so if you are watching closely and it skips that step then its going to be change of mind about selling or changing agent.

Given that over half the houses brought to market fail to achieve a sale (due to greedy and deluded vendors and time wasting kite flyers) it's more likely that they will have been withdrawn rather than completed.

I actually disagree on that one, as a significant portion of vendors would put their house immediately back on the market if a sale falls through so it would go from SSTC back to For Sale rather than being withdrawn.

I'd be interested to know if you have any evidence of this or if you are just making it up.

Call to estate agent might get the answer, otherwise I don't think reason is published publicly.
  • AIUI, whether a property shows as "Under Offer", "Sold STC" or "No longer available" is just down to which box the EA ticked when they logged in to remove the ad, and some are less bothered about what box they tick than others.

My house didn't go to "under offer" or "sold STC" when I bought it; just straight to "no longer available" on the day my offer was accepted.
