Have I just been caught speeding?!

Hi guys,

What's the deal with speed cameras theses days? Fixed, there wasn't anyone hiding in the bushes ;) I was driving up the M1, a couple of hours ago and it was starting to get dusky, and I got an eye level flash... at a guess I was doing about 70, not much more.

It could have course been a bolt of lightening? I'm in Doncaster now and its storming - thunder, lightening etc.

Guess I'm just going to have to wait and see. How long will I be waiting out of interest?

Thanks.

Since we specialise in private parking charges here on MSE, you would be better asking your question over on pepipoo.com as they are the police and council motoring experts.

You will need to register there with a non-Hotmail email address and read the FAQs before posting your query.

    You'll know within 14 days.

Just a precaution - is your vehicle's V5C (logbook) up to date with your current address? Check it, don't assume.

Is your vehicle a hire, lease or company one?

Well that potentially complicates things, because the Police will initially chase the hire company, who could simply pay the fine, charge your credit card and slap on a hefty admin fee. It is likely to take more than 14 days for you to find out.

You need to read what you signed up for with the hire company about how speeding fines are managed. You may need to talk to the hire company to see if they will re-route any fine to you.

    Better hope it was lightning!

  • Grr, I suspected it might! A colleague recently got a ticket for speeding, he used Enterprise and they charged him £25 for "admin" and then passed his details onto the police. He's still waiting for the outcome, he might not have a case with them after all because they spelt his name wrong...

Fingers crossed for the lightening scenario.
