Are these issues too much for our first house?

Mutton - There are many other houses, so I'm thinking we might just find another one that hopefully won't have as many issues.

Incidentally we had already factored in that we would be redecorating, but we were thinking more strip the walls, not redo the entire house

Is that helpful? Otherwise the post code is M40 9dp, number 40.
Wow - I love it! I can see why you'd like to buy. What is the area like?

This one I assume, Thomas Street Atherton (migraine wallpaper alert)

The roof ridge is very badly bowed (and so is next door). It looks to me like the front walls are a bit bulgy too (houses both sides). There's been quite a lot of work on the brickwork at the back but I can't tell if it's been done well or even in appropriate materials.

The "loft room" doesn't have a fire door and I don't see how its stair balustrading can comply with building regulations either, so it's not a room, it's a cupboard where all your heat will rise to. I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't condensation and interstitial damp behind that tongue-and-groove either.

If the current owners did the work and don't have building regs completion certs for the work I'd run away now. It looks like style over substance if the surveyor is saying he can detect movement indicating lintel failure.

I think it's definately overpriced though even if in structurally sound condition unless there's something special you like about this one that is absent from the others.

Admittedly it's better than this one here at £100k
IN NEED OF SOME REBUILDING WORK following an accident ... The partition wall between the kitchen and the entrance hall is in need of replacement ... gas boiler however this will need to looked at by a gas safe engineer as it has been potential damaged in an accident.

At offers over £106k this is end terrace with garage and garden.

Offers over £90k is this with 3 double bedrooms and a garden. (Query polystyrene tiles on the kitchen ceiling).
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

Owain- thank you, I think we will definitely have to leave this one, at least we'd told the solicitors not to start work till we had the survey back!

Jay - the area is actually quite nice, quiet road but close enough to walk to the train station so I'm quite upset it's in such bad condition. But oh well, there's always a new house!

Cool - I haven't been there for years but it looks a great, affordable place to move to. I had a nose on rightmove and saw some notably cheaper places? For a first house might they be worth considering? Still 2 decent bedrooms, outside space and parking. Would you plan/ expect to move in the future?

Jay - yes, I think we're just going to have a nosy at some others. It's a shame because the street is located really well, close to train for me, bus for partner and shops for walking. But oh well *shrug*
