I want a virtual visa for online purchases

Hello all,

Does anyone have any recommendations for virtual credit cards?
I want one for online purchases so I don't have to risk my real details falling into the wrong hands.

I have used Entropay in the past with success but they have just ceased trading last month (July). I have viewed ecopay and neteller, but both have got very bad reviews that I am reluctant to use them.

Does anyone know of any good ones from experience?

Thanks

I've used real credit and debit cards since their inception.

    Never ever had an issue.

I just never save my card details on any sites

  • Just use your normal card.

You’ll be covered against fraudulent purchases etc.
  • You can get Virtual Mastercards as a payout option on Top Cashback, but you'd have to purchase something to give you the cash back and wait a few weeks for the payout.

    This is not investment advice.
Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."
  • There are not many providers because not many people use them.

However, Revolut allows you to create a Virtual card in the app.

Virtual cards are no different to real cards though, in that it's still a 16 digit number that can be compromised.

You could try Curve - it's a physical card, but you can link another underlying payment card to it, effectively acting as a second layer that hides your actual payment card. You can freeze/cancel the card without having to cancel your actual bank card when you don't intend to use it, or if your details get compromised. Only downside is that it will break the link required for S75 protection (although to be fair pretty much all virtual cards will do this I would imagine). Otherwise, Revolut is another option that I can recommend.

A virtual card would still need your real details, and the online risks would be identical to a "normal" card.

The only difference is they don't send you a piece of plastic through the mail - so the only benefit is if there is a significant risk of someone intercepting or stealing the physical card (e.g. you share a house with a bunch of thieves)

Monzo or Starling will let you freeze/lock the card so when you make a purchase you lock the card.

As mentioned by stevenhp Revolut might be an option.
