Rejected by Financial Ombudsman!

I had identified three Mortgages that I had PPI on and I made claims on all of them, each referred to the F.O. Each was rejected. For two of them, it appears that I had made claims at the time, due to unemployment. For the third, Sun Bank, it had been taken over by one of the other two. Yet in each case, I had been previously married and they were all in joint names. The F.O. refused to consider them without my ex's agreement, despite me saying what Martin Lewis had pointed out, that you can claim just your half without a previous partners co-operation. After a couple of attempts, the F.O. said that they would no longer look into my case. The divorce was really toxic and still hurts. There's no way I am contacting her and so reluctantly have to turn my back on this. But it really galls me, especially since it was me that was paying these mortgages. Is there anything else that can be done?

Martin Lewis is not someone you can quote in that manner in a complaint to the Ombudsman! Lewis is simply a consumer champion and he's clearly not an authority where joint complaints are concerned, as you found out. Are you sure you quoted him correctly though?

If you are not prepared to contact your ex in order to share the proceeds of any complaint I don't see how you can progress this any further.

However, consider this, are you certain your complaint would not have been rejected even if your ex was involved?

If you actually claimed on the insurance during periods of unemployment, what was your complaint reason?

You do realise that, even if the complaint(s) were to be upheld the amounts you have already claimed during your unemployment would be deducted from any redress awarded?

    EDIT:
You already posted a thread about this seven months ago and the answers you received then were the same

    EDIT2:
    Your thread from 2017 indicates that these complaints originate from two years ago;

Can I respectfully suggest you forget all about these complaints now? Repeated attempts to refer them to the Ombudsman is totally futile and your case will never be re-opened now

Martin Lewis does talk a lot of manure sometimes... he has nothing to do with the FCA or the FOS, he can give his ‘opinion’ but it is mostly click bait to self promote himself
  • Bought insurance, made a claim, yet wants compensation for having bought it.

    It beggars belief.

Not unexpected. Most MPPI complaints fail.
For two of them, it appears that I had made claims at the time, due to unemployment.

Whilst not impossible, the fact you successfully claimed on the policies negates many of the usual complaint reasons.
The F.O. refused to consider them without my ex's agreement, despite me saying what Martin Lewis had pointed out, that you can claim just your half without a previous partners co-operation.

The FOS is correct. Martin Lewis wrong. Or rather, this is one of those cases where a small number will consider a complaint on one party but many do not and the rules allow it.
But it really galls me, especially since it was me that was paying these mortgages. Is there anything else that can be done?

Even if your complaints were successful, the amount paid out in the claims would be deducted from the redress and in many cases, the claims amounts are bigger than the premiums.

However, as you are no doubt aware as a long term member of this forum, most MPPI complaints do not succeed. So, you are in the statistically most likely outcome.
