Gas hob or electric touch hob?

Hi all,

I'm moving home soon and the new property has a gas hob and electric oven which are both old and dirty.

I have found a nice bosch oven and now looking for a hob.

My question is what do I go for? an electric hob or gas hob? I like the look of the electric hob but can't decide on the 2.

Me too, plus if the electricity goes off, with a gas hob you can still boil water for drinks and produce a hot meal.

I prefer gas for the hob. My oven is electric.
  • I have used both gas and electric.

Gas hobs are looking more cheaper then the electric but I do like the look of the electric hobs over the gas hobs

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't an induction hob work like a microwave?

Yes I would have an electric oven and gas hob.

Currently have an induction hob as no gas in the kitchen, it is ok but not what I would choose.

One of my friends is desperate to get rid of his gas hob and replace it with an induction one.

    No, not at all.

  • No, not at all.

I thought they worked like a microwave with how quick they heat things up. I was given a demonstration the other day at a euronics store and was surprised how quickly they can boil some water.

I'll need to buy some magnetic pans if I bought an induction hob.

I'm not sure to believe this or not https://www.naturalscience.org/publications/induction-hobs-danger-to-our-health/

I've also read they produce quite a bit of radiation.
  • They don't work like microwaves.

You would need to purchase pans with a ferrous base - Easily checked with a small magnet. If a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pan, it is OK on an induction hob.

A quick look at that natural science web site shows that it is using discredited and bogus "research" (MMR vaccinations and links to autism). The alarm bells really start to ring on the "about us" page - "bringing together science and spirituality" - Time to run away.

The only radiation given off by an induction hob is an electromagnetic field that extends an inch or so from the surface of the hob. You have loads of other electromagnetic radiation sources in your home to worry about. Mobile phones, computers, even smart meters (if you have one). Should any of these be of concern, wear a tin foil hat. Just don't ask about the smoke alarm - It contains a radioactive substance giving off a steady stream of gamma rays.
