Hi,
I have just switched from Avro Energy to Yorkshire Energy. Everything went smooth apart of the fact that with Avro I was on the same rate for day and night and I was asked by them to submit my day and night readings other way around. It was not a problem until now when I switched to new supplier. Now new supplier have it recorded 61701 as day and 12653 as night were it supposed to be opposite.
Clearly they will be adamant to change the opening reading to correct ones because anyone could use changing day/night figures to their advantage.
I am so afraid now that my first bill will be showing like I have used like 49000 units or something. I have contacted them but no one is there over weekend and it took them like a week to reply to my initial email about something else, so I would like to hear your opinion to hopefully put my mind at ease.
Many thanks

As a meter reader I see it often where either the supplier/meter readers or occupants transposes the readings and if its to the advantage of the occupier they usually try and keep it that way. Getting the expensive day units billed as cheap night units is a real money saver.
It is normally an advantage to an occupier who has an Eco 7 meter but has exchanged night storage for gas central heating. Anyone who uses night storage heaters uses much more night rate than day rate and when their day/night get transposed they notice the extra costs and are phoning the supplier the same day.
Suppliers have the right to back bill when day/night gets transposed if and when the meter is correctly billed.
Yorkshire Energy may be one of these suppliers who do not have the ability to bill the Eco 7 meter as a single rate , that is same price for day and night. Not all suppliers can do this.
However they have such good Eco 7 rates I think you should do your sums and check the billing to see if being billed night and day is better than single rate. i have checked them in the past and even with as low as a 15% night rate of the total ,users can beat single rate billing.
Yorkshire Energy may send a meter reader out to look at the meter and try to establish if the billing is correct before reversing the two rates. Ask them to do this if they carry on ignoring your complaint . They would not want a complaint to the Energy Ombudsman laid against them which would be your next step if nothing is resolved

Thanks for your advice. I already went through once with Ombudsman with Economy Energy in the past due to them not returning my money. As you said I got there in the end but it was very stressful. With Avro day an night was the same rate with Yorkshire day is approx 15p, night approx. 8p so considerable difference, but Martin Lewis comparison site indicated this tariff would work out cheaper for me.
I guess I will have to wait and hopefully speak with someone with a bit of brain to sort it for me now

So it turns out I am being an idiot here. They have asked me to do a space test to see which meter is moving during the day and it turns out that everything was correct in the first place. What confused me that there is a sticker on the meter with 02 (0000-0700) indicating that 02 is night reading where in fact 02 reading is moving during the day!

Now problem is that today they opened meter reading dispute for me, so will contact my previous company and despite the fact they have to go through the dispute they have already changed them online to what I asked them to even before conducting space test. Now question is can I cancel meter reading dispute easily and revert to original opening readings or not? I feel even more stressed and angry with myself for getting old and stupid.

You're not stupid, but the electricity industry certainly is. How hard would it have been to have labelled the registers 'Day' and 'Night' instead of the meaningless '2' and '1' ?
