Losing a credit card

in Credit cards
I lost a credit card whilst out and about, it didn't seem like a big deal, these things happen so I called up the card company and reported the card as lost. They cancelled the card and a new card arrived the next day with a new card number - all is well.
However, various merchants are still able to draw funds from the old card details - whilst the transactions aren't fraudulent and are very much legitimate thankfully. I expected everything to decline until I had gone in to all of the various places tied into that card and updated the details, it's been a couple of weeks since the old card was supposedly cancelled and it's still working as if it hasn't been cancelled - places like Amazon are still able to bill it for brand new orders (so not something which was pre-auth'd).
I contacted the card company directly before I came to this forum to ask for feedback, and they said this is perfectly normal, that the old card details will continue to work for 60 days. It just sounds odd to me, when someone reports a card as lost/stolen my understanding is that it is cancelled outright, anything which had been auth'd prior to them clicking on the button to kill off the old card will go through and anything after that will be declined.
Any thoughts, should I get back on to them?

Quite normal and the reason why many get caught out reporting their card lost in an attempt to stop a payment that is due. It stops new payments being set up whilst maintaining a bit of normality for already set up retailers. Imagine if your card stopped working just as your car insurance renewed.0

That’s the way it works.
Especially if they are CPA’s0 -
The question we have to ask you is why you haven't changed the card details held by the likes of Amazon to reflect your new number.0

I have now, admittedly it was an automated order, one of those subscribe and save jobs. It along with a few other automated transactions were what tipped me off that the old card details were still working.0 -

Yeah I can appreciate that side of it, the only time I’ve changed cards previously is due to the card being reissued normally and obviously they always have an overlap period.
Thankfully all is well, just wanted to understand if it was normal which it seems to be.0 -
