Damage to vehicle by RAC

  • Thank you everyone for your contributions so far :)
  • 4wd was NOT engaged when collected (only engaged in winter conditions), and the thing was seized when moved by the mechanic (it drove 20 yards at the time, but seized when they tried to move it to begin work the following week - they have worked on these types of vehicle to 30+ years, so quite happy they haven't done anything in that 20 yards)

If it worked when the mechanic moved it and then not worked the following week, I can't see that the RAC can be blamed.

That’s what I thought when I read the moved it 20 years comment
  • The garage can move it 10 yards, then it all seizes up. With a bit of pushing and pulling, (in low ratio, neutral) it can be released (eventually) and then it can be driven another 5, 10, 15 yards, and it seizes again.
It seems something is loose in there, and floating about. I will let my little guru have a look and see what results we find, but it appears the RAc are going to get away with this

Is it a Series 3? They're known to have troublesome gearboxes.
I'd be making sure it's nothing to do with the handbrake first though. As already said it's a brake drum that acts directly on the rear propshaft, just aft of the transfer box IIRC.
