Virgin double charging transactions

in Credit cards
Hi, I got myself a Virgin Money credit card. I didn't look closely before how transactions are made as long as it was done and I didn't have to do too much. A few days ago I decided to pay for some currency using my credit card, it was £750 - I ordered and paid, everything is fine so far. The next day I decided to pay £300 into my balance and I did it using a Virgin mobile app. What was my surprise to see both transactions charged twice!!! During a long call they admitted it was taken off my balance twice but they can do nothing about it! They say they charge it first time when the transaction is made and it's pending - then when the transaction is completed they charge it from the balance again but the first ''pending'' transaction is not cancelled untill after a few days practically taking the same amount from your available balance. Same thing with my bank account- they took £300 when I made the transaction and then another £300 when it was completed - but the '' pending'' transaction is still affecting my balance! I talked with one of their managers today trying to get my money back and he said that pending transactions and completed ones are two independent lists, completed transaction doesn't end the ''pending'' one. They simply freeze your money and operate with it for few days and then give it back. I wouldn't even know but going for holiday tomorrow I needed all my money available for me. Now, thanks to Virgin Money I'm over 1K down without even leaving my home. Just great.

You arent £1k down but your balance is reduced.
Looks like you need a higher balance if its affecting you0 -
Pending transactions will be released in due course.
It’s not “your” money that’s down.0 -

I know I'll get that £1k back in few days. I know it's only my balance reduced. But I don't need a higher balance, all I need is ability to use MY MONEY not any bank or financial institution freezing it as they please.0 -

ok, I'll try to make it clearer, you went to ASDA and bought milk for £1 but the shop charged you £2. £1 pending and £1 for milk.
I paid £750 for currency and they charged me £1500, then I send them £300 and so they suspended another £300 on my current account.0 -

They haven’t charged you £1500 though - they’ve charged you £750 and still ring fenced £750 of THEIR money so it can’t be spent just yet. It’ll clear in a couple of days when the merchant confirms it isn’t not required.
For a supermarket analogy the pending transaction is the £1 in the trolley - there for safe keeping and released when the whole shopping activity is complete, not just when you’ve paid at the checkout.Save £12k in 2019 #360 -
Not sure where the Asda analogy has come from - purchasing produce is completely different to what you’ve done.
Also is your card one that you can use for currency transactions?
If it’s treated as a cash transaction then it will likely incur additional interest and charges down the line.0 -

I could even say nothing to ''fencing'' that £750 because it's their credit card and all... but you seem to forget I paid them £300 from my current account and they suspended £600.
For supermarket analogy ...try to do your shopping if any institution will freeze double the amount you just spend. It's not released when the whole shopping activity is complete because that amount has been already processed and another £300 is frozen. It's like you entered your card details on their website trying to pay £300 for a new mobile phone and they processed £300 for the mobile and frozen another £300 just in case the first one was fraudulent. They'll release it in few days but the thing that you struggling to understand is they basically stolen my £300 for few days and they have no right to do so.0 -
Again it’s not your money that’s been stolen.
It belongs to the credit card company.
And they have every right to do so.0 -

Gary, do you even read what I write? Or are you Virgin Money employee or simply brainwashed?
What money belongs to the credit company??? The money on my current account in completely different bank? The money I paid in from my decorating bussiness? Because that's the money they frozen!!! They took £300 that I wanted to pay and then FROZEN ANOTHER £300!0 -
So they took it or you requested a transfer for that amount?
You keep changing your wording.0
