UC help with renting whilst I own a home?

So this isn't that straight forward and I can't seem to find the answer online. I have recently split with H, he is staying at friends but is wanting to come back. We own our house with mortgage. Ive appied for UC to help me with being a single parent etc. If I moved out to rent somewhere as he wanted to be back, would I be able to get any help with this? Ive never had to deal with benefits before so I really have no clue. Any help would be greatfully received.

Do you intend to sell the house or will your husband buy you out?

I believe you may get 26 weeks to sell or get your share of the equity but hopefully someone more knowledgable will be along.
  • Yes that would be the idea. That we would work out a settlement or sell.

    Premises ceased to be occupied
H2114 Where a person has ceased to occupy premises as their home following estrangement from their former partner, those premises can be disregarded from the calculation of that person’s capital where
    1. the person has ceased to occupy those premises within the past 6 months or
    2. the person’s former partner is a lone parent and occupies the premises as their home.

Premises person is trying to sell
H2115 Where a person is trying to dispose of premises, they can be disregarded from the calculation of that person’s capital where they are taking reasonable steps to dispose of the premises and those steps have been commenced within the last 6 months.

Is it reasonable to disregard for longer
H2116 The DM may decide to disregard the premises for a longer period where for example the person has done all they can to sell the premises and the asking price is no more than the premises are worth.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
