Rejected PPI Claim

This is what is wrong with this website!
What it does say is that if a customer was wrongly told it was compulsory when it actually wasn't (an untruth in other words) then that would be mis-selling.
If a customer was told it was compulsory when it actually was (an accurate statement in other words) then that is not mis-selling, of course.
I hope that clears up the confusion.0 -
Not really no lol!
If they set the rules and decide they want ppi why would it ever be wrong for them to tell you must have it?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If they tell you you must have a PPI policy and it is a condition of the loan then it's not mis-sold. Reasons could include the extra risk to them if you only have a small deposit or they may offer a lower interest rate if you took the insurance.
If they tell you you must have a PPI policy and it's not actually a condition of the loan
(a lie) then that would be mis-selling by whoever was arranging the loan or mortgage!

West Bromwich Building Society rejected PPI claim but offered Plevin, payment.
I had 2 claims with mortgage account from the West Bromwich, the first one in was in 2003 to 2004 and they have paid full premiums due to my employment was less than 6 months.
The second one was from 2004 to 2017 and they are only offering the plevin payment, and West Bromwich are say it is too late because my complaint has not been made within 6 years of the date of sale of the PPI Policy, or with in three years of when i should have been reasonably aware that there may have been a problem with the policy.
The reason i have complained is that i was told i had to have the policy with the mortgage, even though i had policies that already cover me.
I have complained to the Ombudsman and they have rejected it as well saying the same as the West Bromwich, I reiterated i did not claim earlier because I was told I had to have the policy with the mortgage and although had signed a document that said it was optional i would have taken what the sales adviser told me true and i had to have it to get the mortgage.
any suggestions????0 -
If the ombudsman has agreed with the West Bromwich then your only other alternative is to take court action yourself... however given the cost and effort involved and your very low chance of success with such a poor complaint reason then I would not give it a second thought0

Time to forget about this one and enjoy the consolation of the Plevin refund.0 -
still do not understand the time bar, they paid out on the older policy and MSE still posting you can claim back decades.0

MSE is correct that PPI going back decades can be complained about. However, this is dependent on the availability of records (on both sides) as well as individual factors such as yours.
Regardless, whether you understand the time-bar or not, you have already exhausted the regulated complaint process and your case is closed.0
