O/S Daily Friday 2 August 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Dull, cloudy and raining at the moment, very wet underfoot with laying water, it's been raining since sometime during the night. Forecast says it should dry up - I hope so as I have washing I want to get line dried.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage, LO fried new potatoes, mushrooms and beans. Tonight will be something quick and easy.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I got majority of what I needed to get done done, today I have a dentist appointment first thing, then food shopping, home unpack, ironing, and I want to visit our local house and home store as DH says his side of the bed is starting to feel uncomfortable - so we're looking at a mattress topper - but I want to see if that's going to work or do we need a new mattress. I want to get the jobs done today as I'm working in the morning then we'll want to visit the parents etc, so need some chill time this afternoon.

I also spent some time yesterday checking my food cupboards as I still seem to be spending a lot on food with one less in the household, I've rewritten my shopping list as several items I had new in the cupboard it was just a bit buried, need to plan better also!

Keep safe and well x

Good morning, dry here but the ground is still a bit wet from yesterday's rain. I've put the washing back out, had to bring it in damp yesterday. More to do but I'll wait a bit.

Friday Tidy today, I find it much quicker now that I'm at home more, I tend to do a bit each day.

I'm working tomorrow and need to do a bit of prep for that today.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible

    I'm back!

DD picked me up from the airport yesterday afternoon, we were delayed as there were a couple of poorly people on the plane and we had to land at Vienna so they could be taken to hospital. Hope they are ok, didn't mind the delay for that.

I've had the most amazing time, felt really settled over there with my bestie, she has some great friends so spent some time with them too. Fiji was amazing and we were so lucky with the weather. After all the lovely Australian sunshine I came back to rain last night, may have to keep most of the washing for a better day.

I've been reading along where I can but hope you're all well, I'll catch up with all the news later.

    Enjoy Friday, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Welcome home CAMELOT, look forward to hearing more about your amazing holiday.

REDRUBY you are an inspiration with your weight loss but sadly it's not working for me. No matter how I try this excess half stone or so won't shift. I am blaming it on my metabolism as friends and I all agree that it seems to stop working in old age!

I tripped off to Ilkley on the bus for my few fresh grocery bits yesterday and, of course, had to detour into Laura Ashley to see if I was in luck getting more sale items to stash away! I spotted a lovely sparkly silver photo frame to put away for DD but my best bargain was for me! I scanned the clothes on the final reduction rail and saw a pretty pink fine knit jumper, part cashmere, just my size. Was £60 reduced to £5! Bargain!

The 3 DGDs were here for tea and sleepover as DD is working today. They are all still asleep and I am hoping they remain so for a while yet! Needless to say the Friday Tidy is postponed until tomorrow. The sun is shining so I am hoping it keeps shining and we can be outside.

Take care all and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, carers and anyone else in need. A wave to our absent friends. xx

    Morning all.

    Welcome home Camelot.

    TA - fabulous bargain!

Redruby - that's fantastic news. Congrats.

The goodies I bought for DM from the Italian deli weren't well received. :( so it's back to same old same old.

Today I'll be doing a tiny bit of shopping and hoping for a walk in between showers. For 'showers' read short torrential downpours.

I've taken out a free trial with N etflix though not convinced it's for me.

Thoughts to all those struggling. Happy Friday to everyone.

Good morning, damp grey start here.

Welcome back Camelot, sounds as if you've had a fabulous time.

TA, your jumper was a real bargain, what a bit of luck!!

I did loads of cleaning yesterday, there's a little bit of ironing but I'll soon get that done.

We're going away on Tuesday in the caravan, taking one of our grandsons to N Ireland, so we're preparing for that. The last twice we've been away was to weddings, so we were taking posh clothes and shoes that were only worn once, but we don't have to do that this time. I try to plan clothes so we can get more than one wear, saves space. Having said that I always bring unworn clothes home, It's the weather, you just never know what it'll be like.

Today I've got to pick up a prescription, and do other shopping, and friends are coming round tonight.
Redruby, you've done so well with your weight loss !!
Speky, hope you enjoy your holiday.

Hope everyone has a good day.
    Take care folks xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

The sun is shining so the fan is on and I am full of the joys today. I managed a wash and got changed and even washed my hair which has made me feel so much better it's unbelievable. I am sat here planning my day/weekend and there is a lot of cleaning and tidying involved. I have sorted out the first two loads of washing ready for Lee to bring downstairs and put on for me.

Jemima isn't working today so she will pop in later and have a cuppa with me. Steve will love seeing the grandchildren as he has been at work while they were here this week.

OMG, I have just remembered I ordered Lego yesterday which is coming today. I love the Harry Potter sets and collect them and Lilly and I make them together. It is a way to be close to her as well which is lovely as she can be a bit of a prickly customer but she can't resist Lego either. Well, scrap the housework, that is my weekend sorted :rotfl::rotfl:.

I think we will have sausages for dinner tonight. I think we might have to have chips as the potatoes smelled off the last time I checked them. I am still on a mission to use up stuff in the cupboards so will check if there is anything to go with them.

I watched A Star Is Born the other day and loved it so much I have been listening to the soundtrack every day since. I then listened to Lady Gaga's Joanne album and loved it as well. I am so happy finding music that I adore.

Well, on that note I shall disappear as the dogs are bothering me to go outside. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Very dull morning, but we do not seem to have had rain overnight.

OH is about to go out for his hour in the garden, I am not sure what I am going to be doing.

I went shopping yesterday and it is very obvious that I am not going to be able to do it for much longer. Its carrying the heavy bags in that is doing me in.

I usually go to Aldi, but I think I am going to have to do a fortnightly
on line shop with Morrison and go to Aldi for my meat.

    Fish and chips tonight......

Morning all. Dry and sunny here. My thoughts go.put to those flooded in the heavy rain, those in fear of flooding and those evacuated from their homes.

Today DH is tajing the little family to Puxton Park. Play, animals, soft play, boats, a wooden fort and cafe with a farm shop. I am staying at home as it it too tight a fit in rhe back of the car for two adults women and a child car seat to travel any distance. We went to Cleveden yesterday an it was a bit cramped.

Ex sil flies back home on Sunday. Dgs will miss him He did agree that dgs has a better life here with DD than he would have had in Japan with no family on either side close by.

Well I need to go so have a good day folks.

Camelot, I'm glad you had a good time, it sounds fantastic.

Redruby, well done, I wish I could find my willpower, it's gone AWOL.

Gers, I don't know if it's your thing but we've just started watching a fantastic documentary on Netflix. It's about the American Civil War and runs to quite a few episodes. It's very well done and uses lots of original photos and music of the day along with excerpts from letters and diaries. It sounds dry but isn't and I'm learning a lot about that period (most of my knowledge about the civil war was gleaned from reading Gone with the Wind).

Steve has gone off for a golf day with Chris so I hope the weather stays fine. I shall be doing the Friday tidy because we have Laura and Brian coming to stay. We are having an early anniversary celebration because they are going to be away next weekend on the actual day. Chris and Crystal are coming too and we will hopefully barbecue the lovely piece of venison I have in the freezer.

We'll have been married 40 years on the 11th and I really don't know where the time has gone. We've had our ups and downs but the last few years have been really happy ones in our relationship so hopefully that will continue.
