I would utilise the gatherosstate method.

The product key method might only work for retail versions of Windows 7.

I used the serial from a cheap laptop, cannot think of the brand but a budget one and windows 10 installed on a freshly built desktop, activated just fine.

This was after the "free" upgrade period also. Worth a try.

But if it doesn't you don't have a backup. That's why it's worth using the method, if you have the option as it is guaranteed to work.

Be a sad day. The only Windows I can actually tolerate.

I agree, it is the only one I can tolerate, I have Win10 on a media PC and it really is awful.

However, just because support ends does not mean I will stop using it, I have backups on my old HD's and can clone the OS to my SSD in the event of a failure.

I will probably update them with the latest service packs prior to the end of support

M$ said they would end support for WinXP but when the WannaCry malware came out they issued a patch.

I just do not get on with Win10, I forced myself to use it for months but found myself cursing Micro$oft everyday.

My kit will last me till and there are plenty of spare parts on eBay, I suspect they will outlast me.
