Old Mortgage PPI

My wife is trying to find out if she paid PPI on an old mortgage. She had a joint mortgage with the first husband, who's no longer around, and was paid off around 20 years ago. It was with The Abbey (now Santander) and she received a letter back from the bank today saying that they only hold records for up to 6 years - is this a legitimate dead end? She said that she was paying a Payment Protection Indemnity at the time - is that the same as Payment Protection Insurance?

If she and the bank have no records then that is the end of it I’m afraid... furthermore even if a policy could be located it would require both your wife and her ex to make the complaint.0

Most Abbey mortgages were put in place by estate agents, brokers and advisers rather than the branch. If hers was then Santander wouldnt know what insurances she bought as it is nothing to do with them.she received a letter back from the bank today saying that they only hold records for up to 6 years - is this a legitimate dead end?She said that she was paying a Payment Protection Indemnity at the time - is that the same as Payment Protection Insurance?
No.
She means Mortgage indemnity guarantee. MIG. It is not PPI.0
