Ford Fiesta CV Joint Cost

My dad took his Ford Fiesta (2013) to the Ford garage today due to slight knocking noise, which I said was the CV joint as I had this on my old car. I told him not to take it to Ford as they will rip you off, but he took it. Anyway, they just phoned and said the following needed doing:
CV Joint

2 Bull Nuts
Price quoted was £1,700... which sounds ridiculous to me. What is a reasonable price to pay for this work?
Thanks.

Have you thought about Google to get parts prices then add a couple of hours labour @£45ph?
Or take it to a garage you normally use?Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear it in 2026.0 -

No, I am very dim and did not think of that! How would I know how many hours it takes? That's why I was asking.
A friend has since suggested a price for such work and said Ford were "pulling our pants down".0 -

Most main dealers are expensive.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear it in 2026.0 -

You did, as part of your rather patronising reply.0 -

Parts cost, other shops are around and possibly cheaper.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear it in 2026.0 -

Just in case you wanted to DIY with a mate.
My comments were not patronising, but trying to help and bump your post as no one had replied. If you know how much the parts are you can do a rough work out as to total cost.

£1700 was that a clutch and flywheel as well i wonder or maybe a gearbox?
No way that is just for a driveshaft.
Dearest one they have is £440
Wheel bearing £100
Nut £26
Labour (under 3hrs EASY) £300
Even if they replace other items like drop links etc its nowhere near £1700. And thats if he has a rare model they dropped quickly. Standard petrol / diesels and the shaft is half that price from Main dealers.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Not sure if this helps, but I have had lots of knocking on my Fiesta all due to the lower arms - had the car just over 4 years now, and including the originals, now on 8 arms. After the 2 originals, of the 6 that have been fitted (all at different times), I've only had to pay for 2 as the others went within a year, despite being fitted by 2 different garages, and by at least 3 different mechanics. The latest 2 are apparently a better brand and so far so good. I've been told it's a common problem on Fiesta's but not sure if that's just mechanic speak. Mines an 09 plate.0
