Replacing mixer tap with pull out version

Options
I am planning to get a reputable plumber to do this however looking for some guidance.

I currently have a mixer tap in the kitchen - just over 20 years old and it’s looking tatty. The “brass” effect is mottled and grotty and I would like to replace it with a brushed nickel version. I am also considering one of the pull out versions.

Before I purchase one and arrange a plumber is there anything I should be aware of? Is it possible to make such a change or are there likely to be any compatibility issues?

I don’t want to buy one and appear a complete numpty when the plumber says “ you can’t put that on there”! :)

Thanks

The fixings for monobloc taps (single spot kitchen taps) are the same and designed to go into an industry standard aperture in the sink.

Get a plumber round to quote for a supply and fit and then if there are any issues with the tap or it goes wrong within its guarantee period, the plumber will be responsible for rectifying it. if you buy the tap and get a plumber to fit it, he will charge you to come back and sort it if there are problems.

Thanks Phil. I hadn’t thought of asking the plumber to supply so that’s a good idea and much safer.

We paid the extra for the mixer tap with the pull out hose, think we've used it half a dozen times in 7 years. You do need more room under the sink top to accommodate the armoured hose and weight but this will probably mean that you just need to store some of the cleaning equipment elsewhere.
  • Nearly all pull out taps will only work with high pressure systems, say 0.5 bar or more. Probably OK if you have a combi boiler or unvented hot water system. Probably not OK if you have tank fed hot.

    Very good advice from phill99
  • Plumber popped round earlier. They don’t supply however will quote to fit. It’s low pressure so I said that probably rules out a pull out type then to which he replied that I could find a low pressure one if I search hard enough.
To be honest I don’t think I’ll take the risk, I’ll just look for a more modern mixer tap specifically for low pressure.

    Thanks for the pointers.

I'd be searching for a new plumber
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
