Anyone successfully removed a default from their file?

I discovered recently that my score is the lowest category and couldn't understand why - then tracked it down to a defaulted credit card account:
Backstory - it turns out I had TWO cards with the same provider (Barclaycard) - no idea how I ended up like that - and one of them had a £30 charge on it. I was aware of the "other" card and that fact that I'd not so much as taken a Barclaycard out of the house in years so hadn't picked up on the one with the charge.
Anyway, as soon as I saw (via a credit report) that I had a defaulted Barclaycard account I called them - had a nightmare getting through security as I didn't have nay details of this 2nd account to hand - was cross that it had got to there but paid the amount off immediately.
They'd already defaulted the account (which I understand) and this is now on my credit file for 6 years - over £30 which I cleared immediately on finding out about.
Do I stand any chance of getting this (albeit valid) default removed from my file, and if so any suggestions as to how to try and go about this?
thanks folks

(the charge appeared to be some sort of annual DD I'd signed up to in the past)0

Oh and TransUnion (I contacted them through the CreditMonitor app) already said that this isn't something they can remove themselves as it's fed from the credit provider0
-
Transunion is an American reference agency.
But even given that this is not a UK-based query, how did you not know you had defaulted - you must have received letters ?
But that aside, the default is a statement of fact, I doubt you'll be able to get it removed.0 -

TransUnion bought out CallCredit (who used Noddle, now CreditKarma for credit reporting) in the UK.
And the query is UK based since the OP is referring to Barclaycard and a charge in GBP.0 -

No to the removal - since you've already answered your own question that the default is valid.
And indeed it is.0 -
I think that's the answer I expected - it just seems like a hell of an impact on my life over £30 - ironically I've had a solid Barclaycard history since c. 1991 and a perfect mortgage with Barclays in the past - and now over £30 I'm in the bottom credit category :-/0

How come you had the second Barclaycard account if you are saying you had no knowledge of it?I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0 -

There is no "bottom credit category", much like there is no credit scores or ratings in the UK.
The effect of the default will lessen over time, quicker than most since it's been paid off and the balance was relatively small0 -

It's all quite convoluted an I don't think it has a bearing on whether I can get the default lifted - but as you ask (PLEASE NB I'M NOT SAYING ANY OF THIS PART HAS A BEARING - I DON'T THINK IT DOES BUT CAN IMAGINE THE RESPONSES IF FOLK THINK I DO :-) )
Way back in the day I had a Barclaycard VISA and early on they offered me a Barclaycard Mastercard to go with it - I THINK that the latter got turned into a second Barclaycard VISA at some point in history - that's the only "I've got 2 Barclaycards" I can remember - although before this if you'd asked me I'd have said I thought that card got cancelled many years ago - but perhaps not.
Anyway to the Q "did they not write to you" of course they did - but again - series of events meant I hadn't picked up on it - I split from my ex and moved out - was picking up post sporadically - one batch of Barclaycard envelopes - opened one - it as the card I knew about saying £0.00 (not used it in years) so left the rest unopened.
Of course it turned out there were some that were for the "other" card - and one of which had a DD pop up on it (must have somehow used that card details for something - probably online - a year previously.
All of which is just clumsiness on my part. I get that.0 -

ah that's interesting - I based my comment on googling the Transunion score that showed up in the CreditMonitor App and led to a page showing bands of scores and the rating it aligns to
<googles>
it's a page on credit score from TotallyMoney - this forum won't let me post links0
