Very expensive to replace faulty skoda door lock

My little Skoda Fabia, over 10 years old, has developed a faulty front passenger door lock and keeps locking itself. Replacing it: parts, diagnostics, fitting etc is turning out to cost almost more than the car itself is worth. The garage says this is due to VW being the only source of the lock and their spares prices getting more and more expensive lately. Anyone else found this?,

Is it a mechanical problem with the lock or an electrical fault associated with central locking?
A quick Google brings up plenty of replacement lock mechanisms (c£20 on eBay).0 -
My Skoda Octavia went through two OEM locks off eBay in five years. They don't last as long as genuine VW/Skoda locks, but if the car only has a couple of years life left in it, an lock from eBay will be a good compromise. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

go a breakers like car transplants they will post partsDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

actually I think is it actually the locking mechanism rather than the external lock itself that is faulty.0
