I'm using AVG free edition antivirus but am finding it's a bit slow and doesn't give the option of a quick test or a full test. Now AVG is superb but over 1 hour for checking seems to me a bit long.
Does anyone know of a free antivirus program that is as good as AVG but scans a lot quicker ?
Also and this may sound very stupid, do these free antivirus programs actually scan the system as you're working or do you have to run a virus scan to check for viruses ?

Hi there,
Most AV progammes including AVG will check your system as your working.
I'm not sure if it's any quicker but I use avast. I personally find it a lot better than AVG, which I have used in the past.

avast isn't as good as people think. 1 hour isn't that unusual. best to leave the pc when it scans.
https://www.clamwin.com is another free one.
or try Linux (see https://www.linuxlinux.co.nr). it's almost free & comes out every 6 months, works with most hardware, far fewer viruses/spyware.0 -
Your best not touching the p/c when AVG runs its check as it will take longer to scan ,best thing to do is do a scan and while its doing it Do some housework/peel tatties for your dinner etc.wont seem so long0
