ReFormatting a corrupt SD Card

Options
My SD Card has become corrupted which I believe is quite common. Luckily I have backed up most of my data, so apart from time involved putting he data back on, that side of things is not a major problem. I will only have lost under 10% of my data. If I reformat the card on PC which in on on the F drive I know I will lose all my data. But does it mean that it will clear the corruption and I will be able to use my SD from scratch. Or is the SD card now useless and I will need to go out and purchase a new one.

Personally if I get a corrupt card I just throw it away and get a new one. IMO if it causes problems once {depending on the information on it,ie how important it is} the risk is too great to chance it again.
SD cards are so cheap these days {even the quality ones} to me it is not worth the risk.

With the cost of SD cards these days, I would buy another from Amazon. But be sure to test the capacity of it - this link should furnish you with the information and software needed:
Free Tools to Check SD Card Speed and Capacity

I cut my old memory and SIM cards into tiny bits before binning them. You don't know whose hands they might fall into.
  • If you really want to format the card, the free utility from the SD Card Association will clear any partitions and format the card. However, as the others said, cut the card up and buy another. I would look for a reputable brand and be careful where you buy it, there are a lot of bogus cards around.
