measuring current usage on a smart meter

Hi
I know there are a lot of button on the new smart meters; for the electric, is it possible to measure the current load I am drawing at any one given time?

You can't usually get the info direct from the meter itself, only from the IHD

It therefore depends what IHD (in Home Device) you've got. Mine defaults to £££'s (or it would if it was still with the original supplier) so I need to press a button to get it to read consumption in watts.

The display then tells me how much I've used so far today (in kwh) and my present actual consumption in watts. I can also remotely read the electricity meter

You can work out the current, if that's what you are after by dividing watts by 240. eg 1250watts/240 = 5.2amps)

Have a shufti at the instructions for your particular IHD to find out how to display the info you are after. Mine will also let me scroll through my daily, weekly and monthly consumption but I guess it might be different to yours.

Most suppliers have videos or info on how to read and use the IHD (they are all a bit different and IMO seem to assume that most customers are stupid). We don't have gas so I cant offer any info on what happens when you've got that as well.
