In two minds whether to go through insurance after being hit.

As things stand we are not at that stage, but in your scenario we would be so the answer is obvious, no?
To edit my post. I have just scrolled back through this thread looking specifically for your input. You've had a few posts and as yet you're still to make any helpful contribution to the thread. I'm still unsure what your agenda is here so i think the best thing here is until you make a worthwhile contribution then you and I are done in this thread.0 -

In many cases, having a person challenge your view is the most helpful thing they can do. The only time when it isn't at all helpful is when you are looking for people to give a particular view that you want them to give.
If I am walking in the Lake District and someone tells me not to step off the cliff, I don't have a go at them for telling me not to step off the cliff, do I?0 -
Slightly different.
I don’t come here ‘looking for’ a specific answer despite the fact that accusation is one that likes to be thrown at people who don’t say yes sir no sir to those challenging.
If you’ll read you’ll see others have not told me ‘what I want to hear’ ... yet I didn’t take that stance with them that I took with this guy

This video seems to sum up o/p's predicament rather nicely:

I wasn't talking about a bit of grit scraping your car. I was talking about the possibility of you being hit by a large claim from the Third Party for damage and personal injury. I imagine that quite a few people, when presented with such a claim, think just like you (i.e. "There's no way anything will come of this"). But again, it's your call.
On the "declaration" issue - I think most insurers ask the same (or very similar) questions. Mine asks this:
Have you had any claims, accidents or incidents in the last five years?
So, assuming this incident results in no involvement from any other insurer, how would you answer that question?0 -

On a previous incident some years ago i told my insurer of an incident. I said i wouldn't be claiming on my insurance. They told me i didn't need to tell them - just inform them come renewal time.
Sounds strange i suppose, believe me or not - it's your call.
As for your question, i know you'll want me to say of course i'd declare it because i do everything the right way in life. I'm absolutely perfect.
But no. If nothing was to come of it and i didn't provide any details then i'm afraid you'll have to shoot me and burn my body because i'd be staying quiet. I'd be taking my chances and i'd dare bet every penny i have that i'd not hear another thing about it. Who knows, i may be wrong & Mr. InsuranceMan might be on the phone to me next week wanting to know why i didn't report the incident ... but then an asteroid may hit Earth tomorrow & i wouldn't have to deal with the phone call anyway0 -
Well rewinding a few posts to where i was advised to run a quote...
Under current conditions (without this potential claim) my quote came in at £205 on a comparison site.
Declaring this incident (so assuming i go ahead with this) the quote came in at £230.
Obviously there's variables because it may or may not end up £25 dearer in year 2, 3, 4 & 5 but to keep it simply £25x5 = £125 overall that i'd be out of pocket. So if the car was to be written off, they'd need to pay me £125 just to cut even.0
