Wimpey no fines sound transfer

We are interested in a Wimpey no fines semi-detatched house. Does anyone have any experience of how much noise would travel between houses - TV, music etc.? I've lived in a 1930's brick built house where you can hear everything & don't want to be in that situation again!

    When was the house built?

    I've just googled them.

TBH the fact that it is a no fines house is irrelevant. They would only need to comply with the sound insulation regulations in force at the time. And these were probably minimal or non-existent.

I live in a 1902 brick built terrace house and can even hear my neighbours change their minds. I've been here 30 years and it doesn't bother me.

This may not be the house for you.

Maybe pop round and ask the neighbours; they'll be honest because they won't want to hear you either.
  • I think it was built in the 50s.
It's more a question of us bothering the neighbours - not the other way round!
I may pop round to the house next door and speak to them.

In my long ago boyhood, my family moved into a newly built Wimpey no fines 3 house terrace on a Council Estate in Dewsbury in 1958. We had the middle of the 3. Families with young children occupied the others. We were there for 7 years. Noise from the adjoining houses was never a problem. In fact there were never any problems with weatherproofing or the overall standard of construction and no 'snagging' problems. Perhaps there's more noisy electronic stuff around nowadays but screaming kids and barking dogs have always been around. Good houses really, albeit considered non-standard construction. The estate's still there with a lot of the houses in private occupation now.

Wimpey no-fines is a single, very thick concrete wall.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.
