As some of you know I recently got married. On or around 27th October 2007, I completed a change of name form and took this into my local branch with my marriage certificate. I understand a copy of both documents were forwarded to the appropriate department.
Then as I had not heard anything I went into the branch on the 16th November to see what had happened. I was told my form was sent off. I said I had not received any written notification that my account details had been changed and had expected a new card. I was told to telephone customer services, which I did. It took 20 minutes to sort the matter out. I was told my details had been received and a card would be on its way.
Then today I received a new card in my old name. I called up using my new name. I was told my new details had not been received or they may have been delayed. I was asked to go back to the branch to complete a new form. I have refused I have been told my new details have been changed. Plus if my details have not been received how did she know my new name.
Anyway in the meantime, I cannot take any of my own money out of my account. I will telephone my local branch tomorrow but I am thinking of moving my account. I have faxed a complaint to customer services and the branch. All I did was get married - it seems even the simplest of tasks is beyond some folk.
I am definately looking to change my bank. I am not upset that my details were not received I am upset that I was told they were on Saturday. I will have to go through the whole process and again and even then . . . Anyone suggest a new bank account?

Just an update.
Went to A & L last week was told had to provide information again!!, and all would be sorted out.
Went in to the branch today. Manager called head office - no information on screen. If they order a card, it will be in old name which they cannot authorise. Apparently, there is a backlog 4 weeks plus!! So asked why I had not received a response to complaint - takes 7 working days, - they have had 8. How can they resolve this matter - they wanted me to fill in change of name for third time - I said it would sit in the delay queue again. She said they would fax it this time, thats what they said last time and apparently, they didn't. Manager also said the change of name department doesnt have a telephone line. Then husband has a big scene in bank, Im in tears, manager says she has never heard of such a delay, customers are discussing similar problems they claim they have had.
So as - went to Abbey - bank switched. See what happens next . . .All my views are just that and do not constitute legal advice in any way, shape or form.£2.00 savers club - £20.00 saved and banked (got a £2.00 pig and not counted the rest)Joined Store Cupboard Challenge]0 -

If you can put £1000 a month into an Abbey account you can ask for premium banking, good personal service and a UK call centre to answer the call without any choices.0

Story continues. Called complaints and after a fe calls they claim to change my name and I will receive new card within the week. In the meantime, I can no longer use my card and OH had to leave Asda last night and go home and get some money. Not a great hardship but still not very good. Today is the day before my birthday and I cannot get my money. Oh well someone will have to pay for me to go out tomorrow night. Also have Friday and Monday off for Xmas shopping.
Before you ask yes I can go to the branch to get money out if I get a lunchtime and have time to drive there. Have to wait until Friday. Hope this gets resolved soon - yawn!!All my views are just that and do not constitute legal advice in any way, shape or form.£2.00 savers club - £20.00 saved and banked (got a £2.00 pig and not counted the rest)Joined Store Cupboard Challenge]0 -
I got married in Sept. I took the wedding certificate into , Nationwide, Halifax & Lloyds, all changed my details there and then. I received cards in my new name from Halifax & Nationwide within a week. After 3 weeks Lloyds sent me a cash card which I never use, no debit card. In branch to query, I was told debit cards have to be collected from Branch (yeah right) she ordered me a debit card, one week later a cash card came. I rang to complain and was told a new card would be ordered, a week later a debit card arrived (through the post )...but it when I used it it was refused, incorrect PIN number. I rang to find out why, and for some reason they had cancelled my PIN as well. New pin despatched...... that didnt work either, rang to query and told PIN and card dont match you'll need a new card.... I gave up and moved the joint account to another bank.Smile. Its the second best thing you can do with your lips....0
