The credit card isn't "your money" so it can be withheld for as long as needed.
Unless you need S.75 protection (which doesn't usually apply for a holiday booking - you need Travel Insurance) then just use your debit card
I would strongly recommend using a credit card for anything import where the contract value is more than £100.
I received a consequential loss payment (for a non refundable hotel booking( under S75 following a scheduled airline failure. My travel insurance - a supposedly good policy that included SAF - refused to pay out.
S75 gives you an extra level of protection and costs nothing.0
