First post so go easy on me !
I'm another sucker sold PPI via St Helens glass double glazing shark. It was very early, (1990), and via First National bank, (now GE money). They don't want to know as pre regulation. I'm trying everything though. Do any of our members know who may have underwritten the PPI for this loan? The loan was in 2 parts, 1 Main account, 1 for PPI with seperate acc no., & 1 for goods with another number. I paid all payments to First national, 2 seperate payments from the bank each month. I have the account numbers and proof I paid it off, both accounts. GE money asking for original loan agreements ! On the off chance I tried Cardif Pinnacle from info on our site but they said not with them? Loath to let them get away with it ! Many thanks, I know it's a long shot!:(

It's the seller that potentially has any liability for a mis-sale complaint and not the insurance company (St Helens Glass presumably).
Also, your complaint is pre-regulation so could simply be dismissed on those grounds.
I think you should give up pursuing this one.0 -
The seller is liable not the underwriter unless there was a direct relationship, and i don't very much there was a direct relationship with a double glazing firm. Your complaint is over.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Agreed, but didn't the insurance underwriting company have a duty to ensure any agent acting for them, IE. St Helen's glass, acted accordingly, and to their code to ensure the product sold was suitable for the client, even back as far as 1990? (ABI code c1989) This is a straight 15 yr loan/5 yr PPI mismatch ?0

In a word No. The original company that sold it to you was responsible for any advice / selling and should have had their own internal compliance procedures for ensuring any sales made were correct. All jokes aside about Double Glazing sales people, I would really move on from this now before you waste any more time on itI work in Data Protection and spend my days dealing with CMC's. Only here trying to help!!0 -
Thanks everyone. Trying to fight my corner as I was 'stung' with endowments too !! (Doh)0
