Shock absorbers gone on recently purchased car

I recently bought a car that was supposed to have three months warranty. This week I had to have the clutch replaced. The seller paid for the part but said the clutch wasn't bad enough to replace it under the warranty. I would have thought the burning smell and the difficulty changing gear warranted a new clutch but it seems I have to pay for the labour. The mechanic has said that all the shock absorbers are gone on the car and that's why it has a bouncy ride. Should I insist that this is done under the warranty? I dread to think what else is wrong. It's the first car I've bought by myself since my husband died.

Are they leaking or showing signs of leakage?
Shock absorbers rarely just fail, they will often weep oil then they
eventually fail to absorb the shocks.
Fairly new car where they should be servicable or an older car where age
and mileage would deem them fair wear and tear?
Its a used car so the garage could fit used items which you may need to replace yourself once out of any warranty.
Contributing to the clutch ensured you got a new one rather than them chucking in a cheap clutch plate and nothing else.
A warranty is not there to bring an older/used car upto brand new spec with all new parts. Age and mileage need to be taken into account.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
The shock absorbers are leaking. I only bought the car four weeks ago and I'm having to spend hundreds of pounds. I've already paid a high purchase price. I didn't know enough about cars to make a good judgement when I bought this one. The reviews said it has a bit of a bouncy ride but this one has gone beyond that.Don't mess with pensioners. :cool:0

Does the warranty cover shock absorbers? A Warranty should really come with a document saying what is covered and what is not covered.
I would say it is a case of "If you don't ask, you don't get". If you are worried about what is wrong with the car, either have your mechanic check it over, or pay for an AA/RAC inspection.
Next time you buy a car, pay for an AA/RAC inspection prior to purchase. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
Check its MOT history and see if there were any advisories.0

There were no advisories on the MOT.Don't mess with pensioners. :cool:0

Warranty wouldn't cover shocks or other suspension parts as they are a wear and tear item. Go to the supplying dealer and see if they will pay for the parts again.0

So is it a 4 year old car with all shocks gone, or have you only checked the most recent MOT?0
