Is this possible ?

Please bear with me on this....

Whilst watching QVC the other night they were selling a dvd / video recorder by Daewoo. One of the features on the recorder was a usb port that could be used for connection to a pc. However the bit that got me interested was the fact that the recorder would play music / jpegs / and downloaded films stored on a flash drive. Fab I thought....then I wondered could I buy any dvd player / recorder with a usb connection and do the same....? The Deawoo had divx incorporated in it. Would any player I buy have to have divx capability as all the films / tv shows I watch are all downloaded with that prog ?
In essence can I use the usb port on any palyer and watch my downloaded progs on ?

TIA

Many new players will have MPEG 4/DivX capability. Just check the specs of the player in which you are interested.

I bought something similar for £30. On mine: you can't connect the Player to a pc - sticks and hdd only. The usb slot is slooow possibly like v1.0 if not slower. You can play mp3's, you can view photos. If you play the avi usb it is too slow and stops and starts the film every 2 seconds and waits 1- to 30 seconds for the buffer to catch up - not nice!!!!.

On dvd with avi's on: the long names are truncated, so if you were you watch the 13 part series of a prog and you stop on espisode 6-ish, nothing on the screen would tell you exactly which avi you were viewing.
Not all avi's are playable (need to visit another site where 2 years ago you could down load a free test disk - google it. Avi's tend to have a lower volume than dvd (or was it the other way around?) Fast forward did not work and it jumped to the next avi. Mine broke after 6 months (IISONIC would not recommend it this brand!)

I would buy another, but I would make sure it had a region hack this time. SVP.co.uk also sell them.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)
