eBay buyer issues - collection only item

Hi

I’ve recently sold a travel cot on eBay and I’m having trouble with the buyer. The listing was a collection only item and in the detail I put collection only from XXX but this appears to have been ignored by the buyer

After the auction finished I messaged asking when they’d like to collect the item - I have traveled across the country for items I have bought. The buyer has said “I didn’t realise how far away you were how much would postage be?”

I’m not inclined to post it - it’s heavy, bulky etc and I don’t have the right stuff to package it up safely, plus it is more effort and would probably cost more than the winning bid.

Am I right in thinking that this isn’t my problem? The bid is binding and therefore the buyer has to pay up and collect the item? Or is there a way I can get a refund of my fees? Do I raise a non paying dispute against the buyer?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

If buyer doesn't want to collect then be form, explain that this cannot be posted and if they can't collect then you will cancel the sale. Then cancel the sale using the option 'problems with buyers address', you will get your FVFs back but buyer can still leave feedback.

You cannot force them to come and collect it.

You risk them paying by paypal though. You need to avoid that.

I presume Soolin's link will explain all the issues of paypal and collection.

  • Thanks all. I guess I am best to list on the free site beginning with G - at least people collect from there

I'd try other sites first , facebook marketplace or one of the new aps like Shpock , before using Gumtree, if you do use Gumtree then be very aware of the usual scams.

Also, don't relist anywhere until you have finalised /cancelled the original ebay sale.

  • So many timewasters on Facebook though.

eBay said they’d cancel the sale and fees due if the buyer doesn’t collect in a week and it won’t affect my seller ratings so that’s good.

Off to investigate shpock - I can get a draft ad ready on all other platforms can’t I :-)

Ebay don't cancel sales, is there any form of case open? Don't rely on what CS say on the phone at all, it's your account and you need to ensure you are not overcharged on your fees- and the only way to get your FVfs back is via a case. This is all in the thread I posted above.

  • No. There is no case open yet.

I saw that you didn’t want to raise a case incase they pay by PayPal. I will have another read through and see if there’s any alternative.

The CS said that they’d cancel the sale and refund the fees if the buyer didn’t pay- but there isn’t yet a case. I will message the buyer again today asking when they will collect.

    Thankyou.

YOU need to cancel the sale using the option 'problems with buyers address'.
