Hi
Wife suffered a handbrake fail in car park, herself, witness and other party all said they couldn't see anything.

Anyhow they have gone to Peugeot and they have quoted 'visual quote' if 350.
The 3rd party say they can't provide an actual quite for final price untill job starts?

Can this be true ? Can they do this ?
Surley they'd need to provide a written quote ?

We are looking to settle this ourselves and not via our insurance.

Can they take our card details then take 350 then more if they think they need to do more work?

I'm finding it hard to understand what you have put.

I think you are saying your wife's handbrake failed and her car went into another vehicle. Why wasn't it in gear as well?

Anyway, it sounds like Peugeot have said the estimate is £350 but until they start removing panels they won't be able to see if there is any further damage. It sounds reasonable so far.

Why go to a Peugeot garage??? Plenty of (better/more reasonably priced) ones around.... You'll have to tell your insurance company whether you make a claim or not.

    Yeah sorry.

Her car went into a Peugeot drivers side door.
She's ringing her insurance in morning.
I just thought it odd they won't give a written quote

Droop, they'll be wanting to see whether there's any more damage once they've had a look, and if there is, they wouldn't want you refusing to pay more than a written quote. Don't give them your card details - if you are paying for it, wait until you have the final bill, then pay them.

If it's hand brake failure then don't automatically accept liability!

    Why did it fail?

May be better to let Insurers deal with this if no negligence from your side!

Just claim through the insurance. It's easier.
The third party will be entitled to a hire care whilst theirs is being repaired so with the repairs and hire car you'll likely be over £1000

If the handbrake failed though (mechanical failure i mean where something has physically failed) and the vehicle has a solid service history then your insurance might not need to pay out as they only need to if their client is negligent and if the car is serviced often and the handbrake fails that wouldn't be considered negligent.
